# Virals: Liverpool have ‘contacted’ Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/17/virals-liverpool-big-favourites-to-sign-lille-star-renato-sanches/) have reportedly ‘contacted’ Barcelona central defender [Ronald Araujo](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/11/30/virals-liverpool-lurking-for-signing-of-barcelona-star-ronald-araujo/) over the possibility of making a move to Anfield.

The Reds have been [extensively linked](https://twitter.com/BarcaUniversal) with the 22-year-old in recent weeks and reports from Spain continue to mention a strong interest.

Whilst the Catalan giants are [keen to tie down](https://www.barcablaugranes.com/fc-barcelona-transfer-rumors-news/2022/1/14/22883616/barcelona-set-to-hold-contract-talks-with-ronald-araujo-report) their Uruguayan star, Jurgen Klopp’s attention could be a fly in the ointment.

That’s according to a report from [Sport](https://www.sport.es/en/news/barca/ronald-araujo-yes-to-barcelona-but-with-conditions-13100822), as cited by [https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom)[LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter.

The report claims that there are ‘important offers’ from the Premier League for the [five-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronald-araujo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/480267/verein_id/3449) ace with Manchester United and Chelsea also in the mix.

This season Araujo – recently hailed as [‘spectacular’](https://twitter.com/FCBarcelona/status/1464216384733433859) by Xavi – has [scored twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronald-araujo/leistungsdaten/spieler/480267) in 15 La Liga outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £31.5million and out of contract at the Camp Nou at the end of next season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronald-araujo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/480267)), it’s no surprise to see the Uruguayan’s future under the spotlight.

Already an established member of the first-team at Barca, Araujo offers superb versatility with the [capability of playing left and right back](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ronald-araujo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/480267) as well as in defensive midfield.

Boasting strong aerial, tackling, passing and blocking attributes ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/384711/Show/Ronald-Ara%C3%BAjo)), it’s clear to see why Klopp would be an admirer.

However, with the strength of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips already overstocking the [defensive department](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team), the Reds would surely need to sell at least one in order to warrant a new addition.
