# Virals: Liverpool have Philippe Coutinho ‘on their radar’ this summer

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/03/virals-liverpool-named-among-clubs-interested-in-arnaut-danjuma/) have once again been linked with a sensational move for Barcelona attacking midfielder [Philippe Coutinho](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/20/virals-liverpool-determined-to-bring-philippe-coutinho-back-to-liverpool/) this summer.

The Reds are hoping to bolster their ranks during the transfer window having [struggled to defend the Premier League title](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=363&ha=-1) last season.

Coutinho was a fan favourite at Anfield before seemingly forcing through a move to the Catalan giants for £142million in 2018 ([The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/06/philippe-coutinho-join-barcelona-142m-deal-liverpool)).

According to Tuesday’s edition of Spanish newspaper [Mundo Deportivo](https://mundodeportivo.com/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/radar-liverpool-plan-big-signing-jurgen-klopp-lose-star-summer/)), as cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1422851120746090496) on Twitter, the 29-year-old is once again under consideration on Merseyside.

The report claims Tottenham are currently leading the way for the [63-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/80444/verein_id/3439) Brazil ace but Liverpool also have their ex-star ‘on their radar’ for a summer switch.

Since arriving in Spain, Coutinho has struggled to recapture the form that earned the eye-watering move – [scoring 23 goals as well as registering 14 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/80444) in 90 outings for the La Liga giants.

Last season following a return from a loan spell at Bayern Munich in 2019/20, the man [hailed](https://www.90min.com/posts/6377014-philippe-coutinho-how-the-brazilian-magician-became-football-s-first-100m-flop) as a ‘magician’ at Anfield [missed 37 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/verletzungen/spieler/80444) through injury.

Although there is no mention of a potential fee for the Brazilian, currently holding a market value of £27million and under contract at the Camp Nou until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/philippe-coutinho/marktwertverlauf/spieler/80444)), it’s likely Coutinho would be available for a cut-price fee.

However, having [left on poor terms](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/philippe-coutinho-back-injury-liverpool-11072937) the first time around, Jurgen Klopp would surely be reticent to reintegrate the player back into the squad both in terms of personnel and in a positional sense.

The German manager has [shied away from seeking a number 10 replacement](https://www.bt.com/sport/football/premier-league/jurgen-klopp-and-liverpools-sliding-doors-moment) since the departure and it would take a huge shift in mindset to make this deal a reality.
