# Virals: Liverpool ‘hold advantage’ in pursuit of FC Porto star Otavio

As the transfer rumour mill begins to turn a little faster, players linked with [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/24/virals-trent-alexander-arnold-continues-on-road-to-recovery/) are becoming more commonplace.

The latest in a [long line of midfielders](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-wijnaldum-solutions-wildcard-transfer-20692799) tipped with a move to Merseyside is FC Porto attack-minded ace [Otavio](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/04/17/opposition-view-porto-a/).

Mentioned alongside Fiorentina and Valencia as holding an interest in the Brazilian – previously a [target](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/leicester-make-offer-porto-midfielder-otavio-arsenal-interested) for Leicester and Arsenal – the Anfield club are said to have ‘the advantage’ in the pursuit.

That’s according to a report from Portuguese newspaper [Correio da Manhã](https://cmjornal.pt/), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1408052096373510157) on Twitter.

The report claims Liverpool are the club that ‘most seduce’ the [Brazilian youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/otavio/nationalmannschaft/spieler/231289/verein_id/37018) and could land the 26-year-old for a £34.3million release clause before the end of June.

During 2020/21, Otavio scored [five and assisted 12 other goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/otavio/leistungsdaten/spieler/231289) in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Signing a Gini Wijnaldum replacement [hasn’t been billed as a priority](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2021/05/wijnaldum-transfer-klopp-tielemans-bissouma/) by the club, despite the Dutchman’s influence on Jurgen Klopp’s side last term.

Valued at £21.6million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/otavio/marktwertverlauf/spieler/231289)), landing the Brazilian for the suggested release clause would be good business from the Reds.

Capable of playing across [numerous](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/otavio/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/231289) midfield positions, Otavio would provide invaluable versatility to Klopp’s squad.
