# Virals: Liverpool hold ‘great wish’ for Lille striker Jonathan David

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/03/18/virals-liverpool-admirers-of-manchester-united-forward-marcus-rashford/) are reportedly interested in signing Lille striker [Jonathan David](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/03/10/virals-liverpool-ready-to-move-for-lille-striker-jonathan-david/) ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have long since been [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-roberto-firmino-transfer-atletico-23355768) with the 22-year-old and a swoop could be on the cards at the end of the season.

Already a fully-fledged international star with Canada, the young frontman has enjoyed a [rapid rise to prominence](https://twitter.com/standardsport/status/1504124058203475969) over the last 12 months.

According to a report from [Fichajes](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/equipos-serie-pujan-origi-20220316.html), Liverpool could turn to the Canadian in order to replace Divock Origi.

The report claims that Jurgen Klopp has the [27-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/nationalmannschaft/spieler/533738/verein_id/3510) ace as one of his ‘great wishes’ whilst AC Milan and Jose Mourinho manager AS Roma are keen on signing Origi.

So far this season David – [described](https://www.archysport.com/2021/12/three-psg-stars-for-jonathan-david-lilles-goalscorer-and-his-explosion-of-performance/) as ‘ice cold’ by David Hernandez – has [scored 17 times in 38 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdaten/spieler/533738) across all competitions.

Valued at £45million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/marktwertverlauf/spieler/533738)), signing the Canadian would be an expensive move for the Anfield club.

However, should Origi [leave as expected](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1504386054719221763) then the Belgian would need replacing in the squad.

Furthermore, Klopp has already begun implementing the next generation of talent on Merseyside and David would be a [superb long-term replacement](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/383855/Show/Jonathan-David) for Roberto Firmino.

Elsewhere for the Reds, Klopp has [confirmed](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12568979/liverpools-trent-alexander-arnold-out-for-weeks-with-hamstring-injury-says-manager-jurgen-klopp) Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss England duty due to a hamstring problem whilst it’s a meeting with Benfica before a possible semi-final against either Bayern Munich or Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League.
