# Virals: Liverpool hold ‘strong interest’ in Lorenzo Insigne

Having sealed the arrival of [Ibrahima Konate](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/01/virals-new-liverpool-man-ibrahima-konate-en-route-to-the-uk/) with superb efficiency early in the transfer window, many might’ve expected a host of other new arrivals to follow at Anfield.

That hasn’t been the case however as in typical [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/06/virals-liverpool-youngster-jakub-ojrzynski-reportedly-lands-new-deal/) style, the business has since been kept well under wraps despite a host of links to all and sundry.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to attempt to bolster the attacking options this summer after both Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane [fell short of their expected mark](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sadio-mane-roberto-firmino-sum-20468916) last season.

According to Fabio Santini (via [Area Napoli](https://www.areanapoli.it/calciomercato/napoli-santini-sapete-quanto-ha-offerto-de-laurentiis-a-insigne_424131.html)), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1412374786651705349) on Twitter, the latest name linked with the Reds is Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne.

Currently [starring](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lorenzo-insigne/106258) for Italy at Euro 2020, the 30-year-old has entered the final 12 months of a contract in Naples and could have reached a deadlock over the finances involved in a new deal.

This state of affairs has prompted the Italian journalist to reveal both Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have declared themselves as interested parties in the [45-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/nationalmannschaft/spieler/133964/verein_id/3376) star.

During 2020/21, Insigne [scored 19 goals and registered another seven assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/133964/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/IT1/verein/6195) in 35 Serie A outings.

[Hailed](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/insigne-would-be-perfect-replacement-neymar-sacchi) as the ‘greatest Italian talent in 10 years’ by legendary compatriot Arrigo Sacchi, the Napoli captain scored against Klopp’s side in a [1-0 victory](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3097984) back in March 2018.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £43.2million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/marktwertverlauf/spieler/133964)) signing the experienced star would represent a large outlay for the Anfield club despite the dwindling contract.

A true legend in Napoli having netted [109 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/133964) for the club, Insigne certainly still possesses the quality to be an asset at Liverpool.

However, at 30 and with [wage demands deemed too high](https://football-italia.net/insigne-wage-row-with-napoli/) currently, it seems a move to Merseyside is unlikely at this moment.
