# Virals: Liverpool in ‘advanced’ position to land Saul Niguez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/28/virals-liverpool-preparing-30million-bid-for-adama-traore/) are reportedly in the ‘advanced’ stages of striking a deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder [Saul Niguez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/27/virals-liverpool-reportedly-ready-to-make-41million-saul-niguez-offer/).

The Reds have been [heavily linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-saul-niguez-contact-21143613) with the Spaniard in recent weeks as Jurgen Klopp searches for a suitable Gini Wijnaldum replacement.

As many [reports in Spain](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20210713/410512129832/saul-atletico-prisa-trueque.html) continue to link the 26-year-old with a switch to Anfield, the move could be edging closer.

That’s according to the host of [The Football Terrace](https://twitter.com/TFTerrace), Terry Flewers, on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/terryflewers/status/1420284388835799041) who claims that Saul to Liverpool is heading in the right direction.

Capped on [19 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148928/verein_id/3375) at senior level by Spain, Saul has become somewhat of an icon during an [illustrious career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/erfolge/spieler/148928) at Atletico.

Having scored [43 goals and assisted 19 others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148928) in 337 appearances from midfield, the [former Real Madrid academy prospect](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/transfers/spieler/148928) has been a mainstay in Diego Simeone’s side.

Despite making [33 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/148928) in a La Liga title-winning campaign in 2020/21, Saul is believed to be free to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this summer.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £36million and under contract in the Spanish capital until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148928)), landing Saul for the previously [mooted £41million](https://www.pressreader.com/spain/-as-/20210717) would be an incredible feat.

Set to enter a prime age for a midfielder and already with a [plethora of top-level experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdaten/spieler/148928), Klopp would likely be delighted to land the versatile ace.

Previously the Spaniard has [spoken of his admiration](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/feb/17/saul-niguez-atletico-madrid-liverpool-champions-league) for Klopp’s side, exclaiming the ability to ‘press like animals’, perhaps a year [spent with ex-Anfield favourite Luis Suarez](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11838/12078228/luis-suarez-atletico-madrid-sign-forward-from-barcelona-for-5-5m) has further convinced Saul that Liverpool is the club for him.
