# Virals: Liverpool ‘in contact’ with Lazio over Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/08/virals-liverpool-unveil-away-kit-with-ibrahima-konates-squad-number/) are believed to have enquired over the possibility of signing SS Lazio midfielder [Sergej Milinkovic-Savic](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/11/virals-liverpool-consider-monstrous-offer-for-sergej-milinkovic-savic/) this summer.

Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for a midfield addition after [Gini Wijnaldum left the club](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11820/12189637/georginio-wijnaldum-paris-saint-germain-sign-midfielder-on-free-transfer-from-liverpool) to join Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

Previously [linked](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1448476/Liverpool-transfer-news-Sergej-Milinkovic-Savic-Lazio-gossip) with Serbian international Milinkovic-Savic, the German boss has reportedly reignited an admiration of the 26-year-old.

This comes after a report from Italian outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/lazio-sarri-punta-tutto-su-luis-alberto-e-milinkovic-i-due-top-q-25022), as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1412820342502936576) on Twitter, claimed the Anfield club had made ‘calls’ regarding the ace

Capped [21 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/nationalmannschaft/spieler/266302/verein_id/3438) by Serbia, the Spanish-born attacking midfielder had forged a [relatively successful career](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/erfolge/spieler/266302) in Italy since arriving from Genk in 2015 for £16.2million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/transfers/spieler/266302)).

During 2020/21, Milinkovic-Savic [scored eight and assisted 10 other goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/266302) in 32 Serie A outings.

Valued at £63million and under contract Stadio Olimpico until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergej-milinkovi%C4%87-savi%C4%87/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/266302)), Lazio have previously demanded in [excess of £100million](https://sempreinter.com/2020/02/17/italian-report-claims-lazio-raise-asking-price-for-inter-linked-milinkovic-savic-to-e120m/) for their asset.

Not only had the Serb attracted the attention of Klopp, but Liverpool legend and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard also admitted he was a ‘huge fan’ of the star when picking a [fantasy five a side team](https://twitter.com/Kia_Worldwide/status/1205366741360136194?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1205366741360136194%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsportslens.com%2Fsteven-gerrard-savic-liverpool-transfer-target%2F370758%2F) from Europa League participants.

Credited with a holding [range of attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/288767/Show/Sergej-Milinkovic-Savic), albeit mostly attack-minded, signing Milinkovic-Savic wouldn’t be a like for like replacement for Wijnaldum.

Ultimately it’s unlikely the Reds would [shell out a fortune](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) for any player this summer, meaning a huge price drop would be needed to make this deal possible.
