# Virals: Liverpool in contention to sign Lille star Jonathan David

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/01/virals-liverpool-leading-the-race-to-sign-denis-zakaria/) are reportedly among the leading contenders to sign Lille forward [Jonathan David](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/03/virals-jonathan-david-very-high-on-liverpool-shortlist/).

The 21-year-old is one of the rising stars on the continent following a [big-money switch](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/official-lille-sign-jonathan-david-from-gent-for-a-reported-e30m/) from Belgian top-flight side Gent.

David has been extensively linked with the Reds in the past and has [continued to impress](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jonathan-david/935564) since arriving in France.

Now according to a report from [L’Equipe](https://sportwitness.co.uk/including-liverpool-reds-in-picture-for-ligue-1-attacker-club-and-agent-in-favour-of-transfer/lequipe.fr), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1465985508539043847) on Twitter, Liverpool remain keen on the talented Canadian starlet.

The report claims that the [24-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/nationalmannschaft/spieler/533738/verein_id/3510) ace harbours ‘ambitions’ to play in a more competitive environment and Lille will demand a fee in the region of €35million (£29.7million).

So far this season David – hailed as [‘wonderful’](https://www.news24.com/sport/soccer/international/jonathan-david-fires-lille-level-with-leaders-psg-20210124) by Christophe Galtier – has scored [12 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdaten/spieler/533738) in 21 appearances.

Predominantly operating as a central striker, the Canadian frontman can also [play across the attacking line](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/533738) and would offer much-needed additional versatility to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Already boasting an impressive [goalscoring record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/nationalmannschaft/spieler/533738/verein_id/3510/nurEinsatz/2) for both club and country, David would come in with the intention to make an impact at Anfield.

Valued at £31.5million and under contract in France until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jonathan-david/marktwertverlauf/spieler/533738)), the Reds would be wise to snap up the mooted fee sooner rather than later.
