# Virals: Liverpool ‘in the mix’ for Marco Asensio capture

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/02/virals-florian-plettenberg-confirms-liverpool-made-federico-chiesa-bid/) are believed to be among the leading contenders to sign Real Madrid attacking midfielder [Marco Asensio](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/07/09/why-marco-asensio-would-be-a-perfect-for-liverpool/) this summer.

The Reds have been named alongside [Premier League rivals](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) Tottenham and Arsenal as the clubs to have ‘set their sights’ on the 25-year-old Spaniard.

Currently away as part of the Spanish squad at the Olympic Games, Asensio could be [in line to pick up a gold medal](https://www.fifa.com/tournaments/mens/mensolympic/tokyo2020/match-center) before returning to domestic action.

According to a report from [Fichajes](https://todofichajes.com/marco-asensio-apunta-a-la-premier/), as cited by [Anfield Agenda](https://twitter.com/AnfieldAgenda/status/1422127040652795905) on Twitter, that return could be to England.

Capped on [four occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/nationalmannschaft/spieler/296622/verein_id/53824) at senior international level, [injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/verletzungen/spieler/296622) have somewhat hampered the former Espanyol star’s development in the Spanish capital.

Last season the versatile ace, once [tipped](https://www.fotmob.com/news/1dbod3ytgcwk516fbx32cyqzt3/asensio-ronaldo-praise-is-a-joy-but-i'm-not-chasing-his-ballon-d'or!) to become a Ballon d’Or winner by Cristiano Ronaldo, [scored seven times and registered two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/296622) in 48 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will know all about Asensio’s qualities after the Spaniard netted against the Reds during a [3-1 quarter-final victory](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/real-madrid_liverpool-fc/index/spielbericht/3537802) last term.

Valued at £31.5million and under contract in Madrid until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/marktwertverlauf/spieler/296622)), landing the ace for the mooted £34million asking price would represent outstanding value.

Capable of [playing across the front three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/leistungsdaten/spieler/296622) there is no doubt the Spaniard would offer maximum versatility to Klopp’s squad and could be the ideal solution to an attacking issue.
