# Virals: Liverpool in ‘three-way fight’ for AC Milan star Franck Kessie

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/04/don-hutchison-adamant-a-transfer-strategy-will-be-in-place-at-liverpool/) are reportedly among the leading contenders to sign AC Milan central midfielder [Franck Kessie](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/26/virals-fabrizio-romano-confirms-blow-for-liverpool-in-franck-kessie-chase/) next summer.

The Reds were [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-franck-kessie-milan-21142873) with a move for the 24-year-old recently as the Ivory Coast international fell upon a contract impasse in Italy.

In the [final 12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/profil/spieler/294808) of a deal in Milan, Kessie is [believed](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Calciomercato/Milan/04-09-2021/rinnovo-contratto-kessie-ombra-psg-420966692618_preview.shtml?reason=unauthenticated&origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gazzetta.it%2FCalcio%2FCalciomercato%2FMilan%2F04-09-2021%2Frinnovo-contratto-kessie-ombra-psg-420966692618.shtml) to have rejected the offer of a new €6.5m (£5.5million) per year deal – perking the interest of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham.

That’s according to a report from [La Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Calciomercato/Milan/04-09-2021/rinnovo-contratto-kessie-ombra-psg-420966692618_preview.shtml?reason=unauthenticated&origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gazzetta.it%2FCalcio%2FCalciomercato%2FMilan%2F04-09-2021%2Frinnovo-contratto-kessie-ombra-psg-420966692618.shtml), as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00) on Twitter, claiming that all three clubs have been alerted to a possible free-agent superstar.

Capped on [44 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/nationalmannschaft/spieler/294808/verein_id/3591) at the senior international level, Kessie was previously [expected to extend a stay](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/serie-a/2020-2021/i-will-fix-everything-franck-kessie-ready-to-snub-tottenham-and-liverpool-and-sign-new-ac-milan-deal_sto8440772/story.shtml) in Milan beyond 2022 but could now negotate with foreign clubs as soon as January.

Despite off-field issues, the midfielder described as the [‘complete player’](https://www.forbes.com/sites/chloeberesford/2021/02/16/franck-kessie-the-jewel-in-ac-milans-crown/?sh=322ae6ba38dd) by manager Stefano Pioli, scored [13 times and registered six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/294808) in 37 Serie A appearances last season.

Valued at £49.5million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/marktwertverlauf/spieler/294808)), landing the combative star for free would be a huge coup.

With AC Milan likely to be reticent to allow another prized asset leave for nothing following [Gianluigi Donnarumma’s departure](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/16/gianluigi-donnarumma-joins-psg-as-gianluigi-buffon-goes-back-to-parma), should no new deal be fothcoming, Liverpool could perhaps act in January.

Perhaps the ideal replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, albeit 12 months late, Kessie boasts key [passing and concentration](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/277269/Show/Franck-Kessi%C3%A9) attributes.

[Rarely](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/verletzungen/spieler/294808) out injured, Jurgen Klopp would relish the opportunity to sign the Ivorian ace.
