# Virals: Liverpool ‘keep in touch’ regarding long-term target Florian Wirtz

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/27/virals-liverpool-reportedly-keen-on-ajax-winger-antony/) have reportedly kept in contact with long-term target [Florian Wirtz](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/30/virals-liverpool-interested-in-bayer-leverkusen-starlet-florian-wirtz/).

This comes as the Bayer Leverkusen star is [attracting serious interest](https://www.90min.com/posts/man-utd-liverpool-transfer-florian-wirtz-leverkusen-bundesliga) from across Europe.

Mega-rich Newcastle United are the latest club to be linked with the 18-year-old [Germany international](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/who-is-florian-wirtz-bayer-leverkusen-s-wonderkid-youngest-ever-debutant-11192) as the Reds continue to plan for a future move.

That’s according to a report from reputable German outlet [SportBILD](https://sportbild.bild.de/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-keep-touch-rising-stars-parents-ahead-potential-move-long-radar/)), as cited by [Keven Bader](https://twitter.com/Keven_Bader) on Twitter.

The report states that a move to St James’ Park will be ‘considered impossible’ as the [four-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-wirtz/nationalmannschaft/spieler/598577/verein_id/3262) is expected to remain at Leverkusen until 2023 at least.

This season, the cultured midfielder described by Hansi Flick as the [‘total package’](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/florian-wirtz-is-the-total-package-hansi-flick-germany-bayer-leverkusen-17208), has scored [six and provided six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-wirtz/leistungsdaten/spieler/598577) in 11 appearances across all competitions.

That form has earned the German teenager a superb [7.61 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/florian-wirtz/1019322) from eight Bundesliga outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

An attack-minded midfielder, Wirtz boasts a host of [forward-thinking attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/394786/Show/Florian-Wirtz) that would perfectly suit Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Similar to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in terms of style, the technically gifted starlet could be a [long-term replacement](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-leave-liverpool-20816595) for the Englishman in the Anfield squad sooner rather than later.

Valued at an eye-watering £58.8million and under contract in Germany until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-wirtz/marktwertverlauf/spieler/598577)), any more for Wirtz would be a very expensive venture.
