# Virals: Liverpool ‘like’ Derby County goalkeeper David Marshall

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/26/virals-liverpool-complete-bobby-clark-transfer-from-newcastle-united/) are reportedly shock admirers of Derby County goalkeeper [David Marshall](https://readceltic.com/2021/02/18/celtic-fans-keen-on-david-marshall-return/).

The Reds have focussed on contract renewals and outgoings this summer following the early [arrival of Ibrahima Konate](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig) from RB Leipzig.

Now in the [final days](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) of the transfer window, there is little in the way of expectancy that a busy end is on the cards.

However, according to a report from [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/premierleague/index.html), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1430857762465107968) on Twitter, there could be a late swoop for a 36-year-old stopper.

The report suggests that Jurgen Klopp is still considering making final tweaks to the [goalkeeping department](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) at Anfield – likely to be the departure of Adrian to be replaced by the experienced Marshall.

Currently out of favour at Pride Park, the [46 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-marshall/nationalmannschaft/spieler/9500/verein_id/3380) Scotsman has amassed [554 senior appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-marshall/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/9500) during a well-travelled club career.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £225,000 and in the final 12 months of a contract at Derby ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-marshall/marktwertverlauf/spieler/9500)), a deal for the [two times Scottish Premiership champion](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-marshall/erfolge/spieler/9500) with Celtic would come at little cost.

Similarly to the deal that saw Andy Lonergan [join the Reds](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360357-andy-lonergan-liverpool-signing-contract-jurgen-klopp) in 2019, Marshall would represent a smart choice as third goalkeeper given the Scot’s homegrown status.

At present, having only [recently signed a new deal](https://theathletic.com/news/adrian-liverpool-new-contract/LCZvd9pTIJtO#:~:text=Adrian%20has%20signed%20a%20new,appearances%20for%20Liverpool%20since%20arriving.) on Merseyside, Adrian may be reluctant to leave – despite being unlikely to usurp Alisson Becker or Caoimhín Kelleher.
