# Virals: Liverpool ‘lining up’ January move for Denis Zakaria

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/11/16/virals-liverpool-defender-andy-robertson-suffers-injury-scare/) are reportedly ‘lining up’ to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder [Denis Zakaria](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/02/10/liverpool-interested-in-denis-zakaria-transfer-rumours/).

The Reds are believed to be keen on the 24-year-old with [Manchester City](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-sign-fernandinho-free-21899498) and Juventus also in pursuit.

[Out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/profil/spieler/334526) at the end of the current season, Zakaria is expected to be a transfer target in January as Monchengladbach look to cut their losses.

That’s according to a report from Calciomercato (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-manchester-city-lined-signing-january-move-pursued/)), as cited by [Total Football Center](https://twitter.com/totalfc_) on Twitter.

The report claims that the [40-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/nationalmannschaft/spieler/334526/verein_id/3384) Switzerland ace’s contract ‘will not be renewed’ at the Bundesliga club.

This season Zakaria, who was described as [‘incredible’](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/he-reminds-me-of-kroos-seven-quotes-about-liverpool-target-denis-zakaria/) by Marco Rose, has [scored twice and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/leistungsdaten/spieler/334526) in nine league outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £24.3million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/marktwertverlauf/spieler/334526)), signing the combative Swiss star at a reduced fee in January would be an exceptional piece of business.

Seemingly [fully recovered](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/verletzungen/spieler/334526) from any major injury issues, Zakaria presents a relatively risk-free option to bolster the midfield options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the former Young Boys starlet can operate in more advanced roles and possesses [impressive](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/252419/Show/Denis-Zakaria) dribbling skills.
