# Virals: Liverpool ‘look at’ Real Betis star Guido Rodríguez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/02/virals-liverpool-named-amongst-quartet-keen-on-30m-renato-sanches-deal/) are reportedly taking a closer look at Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez this summer.

The Reds are believed to be in the market for a replacement for [Gini Wijnaldum](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/27/virals-liverpool-unlikely-to-make-further-squad-additions-this-summer/) during the ongoing transfer window and have been [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-henderson-saul-21196539) to numerous potential candidates.

Rodriguez is the latest name touted with a potential Anfield switch as the [La Liga](https://www.skysports.com/la-liga-table) side could be ‘forced to sell’ the 27-year-old to raise funds.

This is according to a report from Spanish outlet [La Razón](https://www.larazon.es/deportes/laotraliga/20210801/svraaclakvcixmwwgujtetckdq.html), as cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1421919118945656834) on Twitter.

The report claims that despite holding a release clause of €80million (£68million), Betis could accept offers of €30million (£25.5million) for the [10 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/guido-rodriguez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/342385/verein_id/3437) Argentine.

Signed for just £2.7million in January 2020 from CF America ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/guido-rodriguez/transfers/spieler/342385)), Rodriguez has [scored three times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/guido-rodriguez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/342385) in 53 appearances since arriving in Spain.

Last season the defensive-minded midfielder earned an impressive average [Sofascore rating of 7.02](https://www.sofascore.com/player/guido-rodriguez/609752) from 35 La Liga outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Having recently starred for Argentina during a successful Copa America campaign, [Rodriguez’ stock](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/guido-rodriguez/marktwertverlauf/spieler/342385) has never been higher.

Credited with [superb defensive attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/303876/Show/Guido-Rodr%C3%ADguez), signing the ace would raise eyebrows given Fabinho’s dominance at the base of the Liverpool midfield.

Albeit a relative bargain at the mooted asking price, Klopp needs a different type of option to replace Wijnaldum in the [squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) and the money would be better spent elsewhere.
