# Virals: Liverpool ‘make contact’ to sign Piotr Zielinski

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/07/virals-liverpool-could-lose-five-star-men-for-opening-day-clash/) have reportedly made contact with Serie A giants Napoli regarding a potential deal for midfield playmaker [Piotr Zielinski](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/20/blow-for-liverpool-with-zielinski-set-to-sign-new-deal-at-napoli/).

The Reds have been [long term admirers](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1100863/Liverpool-transfer-news-Piotr-Zielinski-contract-Napoli) of the Polish international after previous attempts to land the 27-year-old fell short.

As Jurgen Klopp looks to replace the now [Paris Saint-Germain star](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11820/12189637/georginio-wijnaldum-paris-saint-germain-sign-midfielder-on-free-transfer-from-liverpool) Gini Wijnaldum, Zielinski could be coming into view once again.

That’s according to a report from [*Calciomercato*](https://www.calciomercato.it/2021/07/06/calciomercato-napoli-zielinski-liverpool-manchester-city/), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1412401722430001156) on Twitter, claiming Anfield officials have made the first move.

The report states that the interest is ‘concrete’ as Klopp still harbours an ‘old obsession’ with the [63-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/piotr-zielinski/nationalmannschaft/spieler/181136/verein_id/3442) star and that Napoli would be open to accepting a reasonable fee for their man.

[Hailed](https://football-italia.net/ancelotti-zielinski-a-complete-midfielder/) as a ‘complete midfielder’ by Carlo Ancelotti, Zielinski enjoyed another superb season in 2020/21 – [scoring 10 and adding another 13 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/piotr-zielinski/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/181136) in 46 outings in all competitions.

Valued at £45million and under contract in Naples until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/piotr-zielinski/marktwertverlauf/spieler/181136)), various [reports](https://talksport.com/football/415693/chelsea-transfer-news-napoli-piotr-zielinski-release-clause-chelsea/) have speculated over a lofty release clause for the Pole – believed to be in the region of £90million.

Whilst it’s [unthinkable](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sell-11-players-millions-20264292) that the Reds would shell out that sum for a midfielder in this window, the mention of a willingness to negotiate should pique the interest.

Capable of [playing in a host of midfield positions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/piotr-zielinski/leistungsdaten/spieler/181136), Zielinski would provide the [creativity](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118169/Show/Piotr-Zielinski) and versatility currently lacking in the Anfield ranks.
