# Virals: Liverpool make contact with Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Goncalves

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/19/otd-liverpool-sign-sami-hyypia-from-willem-ii/) manager [Jurgen Klopp](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/18/jurgen-klopp-top-four-success/) is expected to be a busy man over the summer as the German looks to rebuild a squad equipped to challenge for the Premier League once again.

After ending a 30-year wait for the most coveted domestic prize the Reds have [fallen dramatically](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) off their perch this season – albeit in part down to wretched injury luck.

One question that has been levelled at the side is whether there is a [lack of creativity](https://www.football365.com/news/opinion-liverpool-no-creativity-fight-hope-title-defence#:~:text=No%20creativity%2C%20no%20invention%2C%20no,looked%20so%20ordinary%20and%20predictable.) from midfield to unlock deep-lying defences.

A possible solution to the issue could be Sporting Lisbon starlet Pedro Goncalves, who has been [touted](https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-man-utd-52m-race-new-bruno-fernandes-goncalves) to become the next Bruno Fernandes after a stellar campaign.

This comes following a report from Portuguese outlet [Record](https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebol-nacional/liga-nos/sporting/detalhe/pote-nao-parte-jogador-e-para-manter?ref=Sporting_DestaquesPrincipais), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1394929205436092418) on Twitter, claiming the Reds are already in contract with the Primeira Liga club over the 22-year-old.

This season Goncalves has scored [20 goals and registered five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedro-goncalves/leistungsdaten/spieler/426620) in 36 appearances across all competitions – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 7.43](https://www.sofascore.com/player/pedro-goncalves/895764) in the Portuguese top flight.

Formerly a youth prospect at Wolves, the [Portugal Under 21 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedro-goncalves/nationalmannschaft/spieler/426620/verein_id/16374) holds a market value of £13.5million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedro-goncalves/marktwertverlauf/spieler/426620)), some way short of the mooted release clause.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing a creative midfielder has to be high on Klopp’s wishlist this summer.

Following the glorious back to back campaigns, there is a danger the Reds have [been undone](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jurgen-klopp-liverpool-attack-message-24000942) somewhat tactically.

Adding a goalscoring midfielder with a penchant for [making things happen](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/344378/Show/Pedro-Gon%C3%A7alves) out of nothing will throw a whole new dimension into the mix.
