# Virals: Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp ‘in love’ with wonderkid Pedri

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/08/virals-liverpool-unable-to-use-brazilian-trio-following-fifa-ruling/) are reportedly prepared to break their transfer record in order to sign Barcelona midfielder [Pedri](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/06/ian-wright-verdict-on-pedri/).

The Reds are believed to be ready to top the [£75million spent](https://www.lfchistory.net/Transfers/Top15Bought) in order to bring Virgil van Dijk to Anfield and pay £88million for the Barca starlet.

Having graduated from the famous La Masia academy, Pedri has [burst onto the senior scene](https://www.sofascore.com/player/pedri/992587) for both club and country in the last 12 months.

According to a report from Spanish outlet [OD](https://okdiario.com/deportes/inda-liverpool-manchester-city-quieren-pedri-7749020) and journalist [Eduardo Inda](https://twitter.com/eduardoinda/status/1435226585746006017), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1435328538920505354) on Twitter, Liverpool are among the main candidates for the teenage sensation.

The initial report claims that Klopp has been particularly impressed with the [10 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/683840/verein_id/3375) ace’s ‘style, pace and vision’ – abilities that led to Ian Wright to describe the wonderkid as a [‘frightening’](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ringer-fc/id1268851589) talent.

Last season Pedri [scored three and assisted three other goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/683840) in 37 La Liga outings before earning an impressive [7.18 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/pedri/992587) from six starts at the European Championships.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £72million and in the final 12 months of a contract at the Camp Nou ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pedri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/683840)), it seems immensely unlikely either Liverpool or Manchester City would splash out such a fee for a player available for free next summer.

Given the [treacherous financial situation](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/barcelona-joan-laporta-finances-debt-b1903255.html) at the Catalan giants, there is a distinct possibility Pedri will be allowed to leave as a free agent – an eventuality the Reds should be all over.

Already oozing class despite his tender age, Liverpool could well set up their midfield for years to come with the Spaniard alongside the [heavily linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/jude-bellingham-transfer-latest-liverpool-21508468) Jude Bellingham.
