# Virals: Liverpool ‘most likely destination’ for Renato Sanches this summer

Another day, another [Renato Sanches](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/10/virals-liverpool-reportedly-lead-race-to-sign-renato-sanches/) to [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/11/virals-journalist-claims-liverpool-want-to-open-talks-for-jeremy-doku/) update.

The Portuguese midfielder is perhaps the [most talked-about target](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/media-watch/437218-liverpool-interested-in-signing-portugal-star-renato-sanches) this summer as numerous outlets link the 23-year-old with the task of replacing Gini Wijnaldum.

Following an update from journalist [Mohamed Toubache-Ter](https://sportwitness.co.uk/midfielder-leave-liverpool-summer-club-want-least-e40-42m-transfer-fee/), claiming the ace ‘could leave’ Ligue 1 champions Lille for Merseyside for around £38million, this time the Reds have been touted as the frontrunners.

That’s according to a report from [Mundo Deportivo](https://sportwitness.co.uk/claim-liverpool-most-likely-destination-for-player-klopps-side-expect-to-reduce-transfer-fee/mundodeportivo.com), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1425383113354530821) on Twitter claiming an Anfield switch is currently on the radar.

The report cites interest from Barcelona despite an [ongoing financial struggle](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/barcelona-news-debt-messi-contract-24620522) at the Catalan club.

Signed for £35million from Benfica as an 18-year-old ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11890/10276448/renato-sanches-to-join-bayern-munich-from-benfica)), Sanches was described as a ‘technically-gifted’ player by Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

As Liverpool prepare to [embark on a new Premier League campaign](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/match/2021-22/men/fixtures-and-results) with a trip to Norwich City on Saturday, the midfield department looks weaker for the loss of Wijnaldum.

Not only did the Dutchman add proven quality, but also [unrivalled durability](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/talk-about-an-underrated-player-are-liverpool-already-regretting-/4xu2hveszvf41wbe786724puj) that the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can only dream of.

As captain Jordan Henderson also begins to [pick up regular injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-henderson/verletzungen/spieler/61651), an additional option is a near essential.

Sanches [possesses a range of attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299450/Show/Renato-Sanches) that make the Portuguese ace the perfect man to fill the void and if Liverpool can reduce the asking price, this is a signing that makes a lot of sense.
