# Virals: Liverpool move for FC Porto winger Luis Diaz ‘underway’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/07/virals-as-monaco-starlet-aurelien-tchouameni-a-candidate-for-liverpool/) are reported to be ‘underway’ with a deal to bring FC Porto winger [Luis Diaz](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/28/virals-liverpool-want-fc-porto-star-luis-diaz-as-soon-as-possible/) to Anfield.

The 24-year-old has been [heavily linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-luis-diaz-manchester-united-22209539) with a move to the Reds in recent days and it would appear that the transfer is progressing.

According to a report from Portuguese newspaper [A Bola](https://www.abola.pt/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/deal-underway-liverpool-ready-offer-exact-amount-players-release-clause/)), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter, Liverpool are hotly pursuing the Columbian.

The report claims that the Merseyside club are ‘willing to offer €70million (£58.5million)’ to sign the [31-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/nationalmannschaft/spieler/480692/verein_id/3816) ace in January.

A further €10million (£8.3million) will be added in bonuses so the deal matches the [‘excellent’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9775063/Copa-America-Luis-Diaz-nets-stunner-hand-Colombia-victory-place-play-against-Peru.html) star’s release clause.

This season Diaz has [scored 14 times and provided five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/leistungsdaten/spieler/480692) in 24 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £36million and under contract in Portugal until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luis-diaz/marktwertverlauf/spieler/480692)), the mooted £66.8million fee would be a touch on the expensive side.

However, Jurgen Klopp must freshen up the attacking ranks soon and a [recent dip in form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sadio-mane/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/200512/saison/2021/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/31) from Sadio Mane may have accelerated plans.

Predominantly operating from the left wing, Diaz would provide instant cover whilst the [Senegalese star is at AFCON](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/sadio-mane-afcon-senegal-liverpool-latest-news-2022-b975371.html) whilst also offering long-term competition for a starting berth.

Whilst January business was unexpected, a deal for the [skilful forward](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/377168/Show/Luis-D%C3%ADaz) would be a welcome boost ahead of a crucial second half of the season.
