# Virals: Liverpool named among clubs ‘in the race’ for Granit Xhaka

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/04/virals-journalist-claims-jeremy-doku-is-among-the-main-liverpool-target/) have been named as surprise suitors for Arsenal midfielder [Granit Xhaka](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/08/liverpool-fans-are-bemused-as-murphy-says-xhaka-would-shine-for-the-reds/) this summer.

The 28-year-old is [widely expected to leave](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/granit-xhaka-arsenal-roma-transfer-20951335) north London and has seemingly been close to a switch to AS Roma previously.

However, that [move](https://www.90min.com/posts/granit-xhaka-drops-big-hint-roma-transfer) may have been thrown into doubt as the Reds are named alongside Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham, and Manchester City as potential suitors.

This comes from [Transfermarketweb](https://www.transfermarketweb.com/transfers/transfers-more-and-more-a-listers-meddling-with-as-roma-xhaka-talks-215572), as cited by [The Anfield Buzz](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldBuzz/status/1411279651251658753) on Twitter.

The report claims that whilst Jose Mourinho still harbours ambitions of taking the Switzerland ace to Rome, more clubs have taken notice after a string of [fine displays](https://www.sofascore.com/player/granit-xhaka/117777) at Euro 2020.

Often a man to [divide opinion](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9392377/Arsenal-Granit-Xhaka-claims-deliberately-scapegoat-amid-criticism-ill-discipline.html) amongst Premier League fans, Xhaka has made [220 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/granit-xhaka/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/111455) in five years at the Emirates Stadium after signing for £35million from Borussia Monchengladbach ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36378192)).

During last season, the [98-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/granit-xhaka/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/111455) stalwart earned [praise](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/17/arteta-credits-granit-xhaka-leadership-arsenal-premier-league-upturn) from manager Mikel Arteta after a ‘phenomenal’ run of form.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool fans are becoming well versed in [links to midfielders](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-liverpool-bid-50m-20945454) this summer, but this one perhaps goes down as the strangest one yet.

Albeit a [top-quality performer](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9737631/Euro-2020-Granit-Xhaka-enigma-driving-Switzerland-forward-stunned-France.html) on his day, all too often Xhaka has [proved to be at fault](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/granit-xhaka-mistake-gifts-burnley-parity-r0h0mpv2h#:~:text=The%20Swiss%20player%20is%20an%20enigma.&text=But%20the%20numbers%20show%20that,his%20clanger%20on%20social%20media.) for forgettable moments.

Valued at £19.8million and with two years remaining on a contract at Arsenal ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/granit-xhaka/marktwertverlauf/spieler/111455)), someone is going to land a relative bargain at the mooted £21.5million fee.

That someone is highly unlikely to be Liverpool however as Jurgen Klopp [continues the search](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-replace-wijnaldum-psg-deal-20680866) for a Gini Wijnaldum replacement.
