# Virals: Liverpool named among contenders to sign Erling Haaland

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/21/pat-nevin-claims-kyogo-furuhashi-would-be-suited-to-liverpool-style/) have once again been named as a surprise inclusion in the list of potential destinations for Borussia Dortmund superstar [Erling Haaland](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/09/virals-liverpool-named-on-three-club-shortlist-for-erling-haaland/).

The 21-year-old is perhaps the [hottest property in world football](https://www.transfermarkt.com/spieler-statistik/wertvollstespieler/marktwertetop/mw) right now and a host of Europe’s biggest clubs are set to battle for the striker’s signature.

Despite previously being [reticent to spend lavishly](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-net-spend-klopp-fsg-21458992) in the past, the Anfield club continues to be tentatively linked with a move for the Norwegian.

Now a report from [Sky Germany](https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/haaland-zukunft-hei-223-es-thema-diese-option-sind-aktuell-realistisch/12501066/34942) has claimed the Reds are an ‘option’ for the [15-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/nationalmannschaft/spieler/418560/verein_id/3440) Norway phenomenon.

Journalist Marc Behrenbeck states that Liverpool are ‘looking’ for a number nine next summer and a [demand](https://sport.sky.de/fussball/artikel/haaland-zukunft-hei-223-es-thema-diese-option-sind-aktuell-realistisch/12501066/34942) for ‘further reinforcement’ from Mohamed Salah could see Haaland become a realistic prospect.

So far this season the man hailed as [‘lethal’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9365253/Erling-Haaland-Thierry-Henry-praise-lethal-Borussia-Dortmund-star.html) by Theirry Henry has [scored 19 times and provided five assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdaten/spieler/418560) in just 16 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool have previously acted upon [transformational signings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/transferrekorde/verein/31) such as Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho – signing Haaland would be another example of exactly that.

Valued at an eye-watering £135million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/marktwertverlauf/spieler/418560)), the Norwegian’s mooted [£63.9million release clause](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/dortmund-haaland-release-clause-raiola-24783984) makes this deal a plausible one despite astronomical wage demands.

Whilst the likes of Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Sadio Mane [continue to produce](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/kader/verein/31) for the Reds, the Dortmund man is a truly generational talent that any club would welcome with open arms.

At 21 and with a truly [remarkable goalscoring record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/418560), adding Haaland’s numbers to Salah’s is a frightening, if slightly optimistic, prospect.
