# Virals: Liverpool ‘open talks’ for Reading starlet Femi Azeez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/27/ian-wright-believes-yves-bissouma-is-tailor-made-for-liverpool-role/) have reportedly ‘opened talks’ to sign Reading youngster Femi Azeez this summer.

The Reds could be looking to do late business in a summer transfer market that has been [relatively quiet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/transfers/verein/31) on Merseyside until now.

So far only [Ibrahima Konate](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/13/jamie-carragher-talks-up-potentially-spectacular-liverpool-partnership/) has been added to a [refreshed Anfield squad](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) as Jurgen Klopp attempts to plot a challenge for major honours once again.

According to a report from [CaughtOffside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2021/08/27/liverpool-reading-femi-azeez-exclusive/), as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/caughtoffside/status/1431281702568140801), Liverpool could be in for a 20-year-old Championship youngster.

The report claims that the club are ‘active’ in the market and Klopp has been ‘pushing’ for [ex-Wealdstone youngster](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/femi-azeez/transfers/spieler/703408) Azeez on a potential £75,000-a-week deal.

Released by Watford aged 14, the exciting forward, hailed as [‘fantastic’](https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2021/august/Pauno-pleased-with-Azeez/) by manager Veljko Paunovic, has enjoyed a [bizarre route](https://thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2021/8/20/22630929/femi-azeez-rise-from-released-youngster-to-championship-goalscorer-reading-fc-royals) to prominence.

Following a fleeting debut appearance against Sheffield Wednesday last term on the back of [10 Premier League 2 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/femi-azeez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/703408), Azeez has [scored twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/femi-azeez/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/703408/plus/0/saison/2021/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/1032) in four Championship outings this season.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

In the final 12 months of a contract at the Madjeski Stadium ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/femi-azeez/profil/spieler/703408)), the Royals would likely be keen to strike a deal before the end of the current window to avoid losing their man for nothing.

Capable of operating across the frontline, the young Englishman has made a [bright start](https://www.sofascore.com/player/femi-azeez/1007093) to life in the second-tier and could act as a viable backup option to Klopp’s attacking ranks.

A strong finisher with a physical presence ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/402779/Show/Femi-Azeez)), the report doesn’t allude to a possible return loan move which may suggest the Reds are steadfast on keeping the ace should the deal get done.

Albeit still a relative unknown, Liverpool are [renowned for doing their due diligence](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-recruitment-fsg-klopp-17369211) and would be reticent to sign a player incapable of flourishing.
