# Virals: Liverpool outcast Ben Davies ‘determined’ to succeed at Anfield

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/10/virals-fabrizio-romano-expects-liverpool-to-sign-a-new-winger/) central defender [Ben Davies](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/09/celtic-want-liverpools-ben-davies/) is reportedly ‘determined’ to stay and prove his worth at Anfield amid interest from elsewhere.

Following a surprise deadline day arrival from Preston North End, the 25-year-old [failed to make a single appearance](https://www.premierleague.com/players/10081/Ben-Davies/overview) for the Reds despite a host of defensive injuries to Jurgen Klopp’s ranks.

Featuring on the bench on just eight occasions, there had been speculation that Davies could move on just months after arriving at Anfield with [Celtic and Bournemouth keen](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/ben-davies-celtic-transfer-latest-23403608).

However, according to a report from [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-saul-niguez-24499141), as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1413562344022503426) on Twitter, the Barrow-born ace wants to prove himself on Merseyside.

Davies was believed to be [all but set](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/transfer-gossip-liverpool-celtic-ben-davies-blunder-moyes-adam-armstrong) to head north of the border to Celtic before Liverpool swooped on deadline day.

Prior to the switch, the centre-back had made [19 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-davies/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/257097/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB2/verein/466) in the Championship – earning an average [Sofascore rating of 6.99](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ben-davies/309218) in the process.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £2.7million and contracted until 2025 at Anfield ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-davies/marktwertverlauf/spieler/257097)), there would be an opportunity to make a significant profit on the [£1.6million fee](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/liverpool-complete-16m-davies-signing-preston/x6ejltp2d7qo1thfn8ze2dpq4) paid to Preston.

Whilst it may seem incredibly ruthless, realistically Davies is going to find [opportunities](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-davies/leistungsdaten/spieler/257097) even harder to come by next season.

Having failed to make a debut in the absence of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, the return of that world-class trio and the [addition of Ibrahima Konate](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435628-liverpool-agree-deal-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-from-rb-leipzig) would surely further limit any chances.

As things stand, both Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams also [sit ahead in the pecking order](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/434196-nat-phillips-and-rhys-williams-have-created-proper-careers-now) – albeit both could leave this summer.

Overall if suitable offers were to be forthcoming for both club and player, it may be best for all parties to cut ties.
