# Virals: Liverpool owners FSG take off-field spending to £224million

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/15/liverpool-alexander-isak-interest/) owners Fenway Sports Group are set to take the off-field spending to £224million with the [Anfield Road](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/15/liverpool-60m-anfield-expansion/) expansion.

Plans for the £60million proposed redevelopment of the stand were [given the green light](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/announcements/436539-anfield-road-stand-expansion-gains-planning-permission) by Liverpool City Council’s planning committee earlier this week.

The expansion will increase the capacity by around 7,000, taking the overall capacity to more than 61,000 – as well as [installing 7,800 rail seats](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jun/15/liverpool-to-install-7800-safety-rail-seats-at-anfield-to-reduce-risks-of-standing).

Having already completely regenerated the Main Stand and built a [whole new state of the art training centre](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8957275/Inside-Liverpools-new-50m-training-ground-New-pictures-reveal-look-champions-complex.html#:~:text=At%20their%20new%20headquarters%2C%20Liverpool,with%20his%20assistant%20Pep%20Lijnders.) in Kirkby, the investment has been clear for all to see.

Often criticised for their decision making – never more so than the recent involvement in the [breakaway European Super League](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56875792) – the ownership group have certainly been getting things right when it comes to developing the periphery.

Whilst it could be argued the [much-maligned owners](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/john-henry-fsg-sell-liverpool-20507667) should have put a similar investment into the playing squad, it’s difficult to not be impressed with the off-field work.

Anfield has been in need of additional capacity for some time now and in doing so will help those [special European nights](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/features/328992-top-10-nights-liverpool-europe-anfield) become even more memorable.
