# Virals: Liverpool ‘paying close attention’ to Saul Niguez

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/28/virals-liverpool-reportedly-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-otavio/) are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid midfielder [Saul Niguez](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/10/liverpool-atletico-saul-rumours/) after the Spaniard expressed a desire to leave the La Liga champions.

The Reds have long since been [credited with an admiration](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8012299/Saul-Niguez-impressed-Liverpool-Atletico-ready-exploit-weaknesses.html) of the 26-year-old and could be set to further their advances this summer.

Facing likely [competition](https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/08/atletico-madrid-offer-saul-niguez-to-manchester-city-in-bid-to-sign-bernardo-silva-14739555/)from both Manchester United and Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp could get his hands on Saul for €40 million (£34.31 million).

That is according to a report from Spanish outlet [AS](https://as.com/futbol/2021/06/26/primera/1624725958_236990.html), as cited by [The Anfield Buzz](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldBuzz/status/1409472869902569474) on Twitter.

Signed from Rayo Vallecano in 2014, the [19-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148928/verein_id/3375) ace has become a mainstay in Diego Simeone’s side.

Despite making [337 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/148928) during a seven-year spell in the capital, the report claims the man [described](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/lionel-messi-comments-saul-niguez-21785527) as the ‘complete midfielder’ by [six-time Ballon d’Or winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lionel-messi/erfolge/spieler/28003) Lionel Messi, will be allowed to leave the Wanda Metropolitano.

During the successful 2020/21 campaign, Saul [scored twice and created one goal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/saul-niguez/leistungsdaten/spieler/148928) in 41 appearances in all competitions.

Cited for possessing an [abundance](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/112161/Show/Sa%C3%BAl-%C3%91%C3%ADguez) of midfield attributes, in particular in a defensive sense, the Spaniard would be a like for like replacement for Gini Wijnaldum at Anfield.
