# Virals: Liverpool ‘preparing’ bid for Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/17/garth-crooks-believes-james-ward-prowse-would-suit-liverpool/) are reportedly ‘preparing’ a bid for Leeds United midfielder [Kalvin Phillips](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/28/virals-liverpool-enter-the-race-to-sign-kalvin-phillips/).

The 26-year-old is highly rated and has already proven to be [capable of operating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/kalvin-phillips/786028) at the Premier League level.

Currently sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Phillips is [believed to be on the radar](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/transfers/2021-2022/leeds-midfielder-kalvin-phillips-to-snub-manchester-united-move-in-favour-of-liverpool-paper-round_sto8664554/story.shtml) at Anfield, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

According to a report from Spanish outlet [*El Nacional*](https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/klopp-demana-el-fitxatge-pero-prefereixen-vendre-l-al-reial-madrid-d-ancelotti-que-deixar-que-vagi-el_695403_102.html), as cited by [TheKop.com](https://twitter.com/TheKop_com) on Twitter, the Reds could be considering a move for the Yorkshireman.

The report claims that the [19-cap England man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/nationalmannschaft/spieler/351749/verein_id/3299) is ‘seduced’ by the prospect of a move to Merseyside and Jurgen Klopp is a ‘big fan’ of the ace.

Prior to the injury setback, Phillips – dubbed the [‘Yorkshire Pirlo’](https://www.goal.com/en/news/pirlo-responds-to-yorkshire-pirlo-comparisons-with-leeds-england-/5yoz4tsotb0q1u2r2xpfds9vh) – has [scored once and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/leistungsdaten/spieler/351749) in 15 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £36million and under contract at Elland Road until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/marktwertverlauf/spieler/351749)), signing the defensive midfielder for the mooted £33.4million would be a superb piece of business.

Boasting a range of [strong attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/270446/Show/Kalvin-Phillips), Phillips would provide a hugely impressive backup option to Fabinho.

However, much of the Englishman’s strengths lie in the [defensive side](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/351749) of the game and Klopp may be in search of a more forward-thinking midfielder.

That said, a double raid on Leeds United for the [heavily linked Raphinha](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-sent-raphinha-message-leeds-22665328) and Phillips would certainly strengthen the Liverpool ranks.
