# Virals: Liverpool ‘reach agreement in principle’ with Jordan Henderson

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/15/virals-liverpool-defender-ben-davies-set-for-season-long-loan-deal/) have reportedly reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with [Jordan Henderson over](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/19/virals-james-pearce-claims-uncertainty-over-jordan-hendersons-future/) a new contract.

There had been doubts over the 31-year-old’s future on Merseyside after it was [revealed](https://theathletic.com/2713743/2021/07/19/jordan-henderson-and-liverpool-a-contract-dilemma-causing-a-lot-of-uncertainty/) talks had previously stalled.

The uncertainty led to [reported interest](https://www.football-espana.net/2021/07/19/atletico-madrid-to-rival-psg-in-shock-jordan-henderson-move) from Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid in particular, but any concerns over the captain’s long-term Anfield stay could now be put to rest.

According to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2771264/2021/08/16/ornstein-henderson-liverpool-contract-bellerin-arsenal-exit-new-deal-barnes-leicester/?source=emp_shared_article), as cited by [David Ornstein](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1427161986480082952) on Twitter, the England man looks set to extend a decade long adventure.

The report claims Henderson has continued to play a ‘pivotal role’ in training despite the ongoing situation and could now be rewarded with a new long-term contract – [joining Alisson Becker](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/439844-alisson-becker-signs-new-long-term-contract-with-liverpool-fc), Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the list of ace’s to extend deals this summer.

Signed from Sunderland in 2011 for £20million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/13685517)), the experienced midfielder has gone on to make [392 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-henderson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/61651) for the club – lifting the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup and [Club World Cup](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-henderson/erfolge/spieler/61651) as captain in the process.

Albeit perhaps not the most glamourous of deals to complete during a summer transfer window, tying the [talismanic leader](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12015222/jordan-henderson-how-he-became-liverpools-leader-and-a-player-of-the-season-contender) down is vitally important.

Ability and influence aside in terms of performance, the Sunderland-born star has taken the club to heart and is [often the driving force](https://www.liverpool.com/liverpool-fc-news/features/liverpool-jordan-henderson-manchester-united-19635604) behind any impressive display.

Henderson watched on during Jurgen Klopp’s side opening day [3-0 victory](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2021/aug/14/norwich-city-v-liverpool-premier-league-live) over Norwich City but could feature on Saturday as Liverpool host Burnley in front of a capacity crowd at Anfield.

Unbeknown to many, the [£18million valued star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-henderson/marktwertverlauf/spieler/61651) featured in a behind closed doors friendly clash with Aston Villa on Sunday – with Thiago Alcantara also obtaining crucial miniutes.
