# Virals: Liverpool receive approach from Benfica for Harry Wilson

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/25/virals-liverpool-midfielder-james-milner-begins-pre-season/) have reportedly had an initial approach for the services of winger [Harry Wilson](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/22/virals-harry-wilson-wanted-by-at-least-six-clubs-this-summer/).

The contact came from Portuguese Liga Nos side Benfica as the Reds look to sell on a number of their fringe [squad players](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) this summer.

However, the talks are believed to have [broken down](https://theathletic.com/news/liverpool-harry-wilson-transfer-benfica/MVg0dMp3JTic) for now due to a €15million (£12.8million) asking price.

This is according to a report from The Athletic, as cited by [James Pearce](https://twitter.com/JamesPearceLFC/status/1408349249318928385) on Twitter.

Newly promoted Brentford and recently relegated West Brom are also credited with holding an interest in the Welshman, whilst Burnley saw a [bid of £12million rejected](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-liverpool-reject-attacker-bid-as-transfer-stalls-edwards-wants-another-3m/) last summer.

The 24-year-old spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan in the Championship at Cardiff City where the forward scored [seven goals and contributed 12 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/leistungsdaten/spieler/279455) in 37 appearances.

Capped on [28 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/nationalmannschaft/spieler/279455/verein_id/3864) at senior level by Wales, the ace is currently preparing to face Denmark in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020 on Saturday.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £15.3million and under contract at Anfield until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-wilson/marktwertverlauf/spieler/279455)), Liverpool are right to hold out for the right price for their man on this one.

Whilst a permanent departure seems inevitable this summer after numerous loan spells and with Harvey Elliott [likely to be ahead in the pecking order](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12297657/harvey-elliott-confident-of-liverpool-first-team-place-after-blackburn-loan), the Reds need to bolster their own transfer budget accordingly.

Albeit perhaps minor details, transfer expert Michael Edwards has made a habit of extracting the [best possible deal](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/michael-edwards-real-story-behind-17994543) from a club point of view – something that will be put to the test on numerous occasions over the coming weeks.
