# Virals: Liverpool reportedly ‘in love’ with Martin Ødegaard

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/02/virals-florian-plettenberg-confirms-liverpool-made-federico-chiesa-bid/) are said to be ‘in love’ with Real Madrid attacking midfielder [Martin Ødegaard](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/10/28/rumoured-liverpool-target-odegaard-set-to-stay-at-real-madrid-next-season/).

The Reds have a history with the talented Norwegian having [tried to sign the boyhood fan](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/teenage-wonderkid-martin-odegaard-keen-4462667) as a teenage sensation from Strømsgodset IF.

Since [arriving in the Spanish capital](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-odegaard/transfers/spieler/316264) as a wonderkid, Ødegaard has struggled to have the desired impact at the Bernabeu.

According to a report from Spanish outlet [Fichajes](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/tres-equipos-podrian-fichar-martin-odegaard-20210731.html), as cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1421826450458619907) on Twitter, Liverpool could still harbour ambitions of signing the now 22-year-old.

The report claims both Chelsea and Arsenal are keen on the [30-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-odegaard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/316264/verein_id/3440) Norway captain after the star spent the second half of last season on loan in North London.

Hailed as [‘very intelligent’](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/mar/22/very-intelligent-mikel-arteta-hails-martin-degaards-impact-at-arsenal) by Mikel Arteta, Ødegaard [scored once and registered two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-odegaard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/316264) in 14 Premier League outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing the Norwegian would certainly give Jurgen Klopp [additional firepower](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) in an attacking sense.

Albeit a player more in the mould of Philippe Coutinho than Gini Wijnaldum, Ødegaard can certainly [operate from central midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-odegaard/leistungsdaten/spieler/316264) as well as providing from wide areas.

Valued at £36million and under contract in Spain until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-odegaard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/316264)), the mooted £43million asking price would be a worthwhile expenditure on a player brimming with talent.

As compatriot Erling Haaland potentially [becomes available](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/does-erling-haaland-have-a-transfer-release-clause-which/5fya6eqnr0bk1loqqkxmhbjwh) next summer, could landing Ødegaard give the Reds the upper hand in pursuit elsewhere?
