# Virals: Liverpool reportedly ‘leading the race’ for Yves Bissouma

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/26/virals-wolves-willing-to-listen-to-offers-for-liverpool-target-ruben-neves/) are believed to be ‘leading the race’ for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder [Yves Bissouma](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/13/ian-wright-bissouma-transfer/).

Jurgen Klopp will almost certainly be in the market for a central midfielder this summer as Dutch ace [Gini Wijnaldum prepares to leave the club](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/barcelona-contract-offer-finally-explain-20679032) as a free agent in the coming weeks.

Bissouma is thought to be one of the options on Klopp’s radar – with Youri Tielemans and Houssem Aouar also [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fans-houssem-aouar-transfer-19966666) in recent days.

The Reds look to be facing [fierce competition](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/man-city-transfer-rumours-latest-20541207) for the 24-year-old Brighton man as Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City both take an interest.

However, a fresh report from [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/886215/van-dijk-ibrahima-konate-bissouma-wijnaldum-transfers-liverpool-man-city/), as cited by their official [Twitter](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1397534230997966851) account, has claimed Liverpool lead the race for the Mali international’s signature.

This season the [18-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/nationalmannschaft/spieler/410425/verein_id/3674) star earned an average [Sofascore rating of 7.07](https://www.sofascore.com/player/yves-bissouma/844842) across 36 Premier League outings – scoring once, making an average of 2.9 tackles per game and 1.8 clearances.

Valued at £15.3million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/marktwertverlauf/spieler/410425)), hailed an [‘exceptional footballer’](https://www.brightonandhoveindependent.co.uk/sport/football/brighton-and-hove-albion/gary-linekers-exceptional-yves-bissouma-tweet-has-liverpool-arsenal-and-brighton-fans-buzzing-3198219) by Gary Lineker, Brighton are believed to want in the [region of £40million](https://metro.co.uk/2021/05/17/brighton-set-price-for-arsenal-or-liverpool-to-sign-yves-bissouma-14595113/?ito=cbshare%20%20Twitter:%20https://twitter.com/MetroUK%20|%20Facebook:%20https://www.facebook.com/MetroUK/) for their man.

Bissouma would be a superb Wijnaldam replacement with [like for like](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/303096/Show/Yves-Bissouma) attributes.

Whilst many Kopites might’ve [hoped for a more attack-minded alternative](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/carragher-claims-liverpool-need-sign-number-10-klopp-never-wanted), Klopp will be reticent to allow the energy levels to dip in the heart of his side.

Although the mooted £40million valuation should be treated with due trepidation – smart business and [early sales](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-transfer-news-divock-origi-24192176) could see the Reds land a talented player with plenty of room for growth.
