# Virals: Liverpool reportedly scouting USA wonderkid Reed Baker-Whiting

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/07/virals-liverpool-considering-move-for-real-madrid-forward-marco-asensio/) have been named among a number of clubs scouting Seattle Sounders’ young midfielder Reed Baker-Whiting.

The 16-year-old has attracted attention from the Reds, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund followed a [breakthrough](https://www.sofascore.com/player/reed-baker-whiting/1035473) into senior action.

Born in Seattle, Baker-Whiting has been part of the MLS side’s academy since 2020 and has been [sent out on loan twice](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reed-baker-whiting/transfers/spieler/793957) to Tacoma Defiance in the USLC – the equivalent of the Championship in England.

According to a report from [MLSsoccer.com](https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/seattle-homegrown-reed-baker-whiting-generating-interest-from-uefa-champions-lea), as cited by journalist [Tom Bogert](https://twitter.com/tombogert) on Twitter, Liverpool have been keeping an eye on the teenager.

> Seattle Sounders and USYNT midfielder Reed Baker-Whiting has been scouted by Liverpool, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, I'm told. \

The report details the ruling which means no transfer would be possible until the [USA Under 15 international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reed-baker-whiting/nationalmannschaft/spieler/793957/verein_id/28437) turns 18 – whilst also hailing the ace as a ‘big talent’.

This season the versatile midfielder has made four top-flight appearances, including 90 minutes as the [Sounders beat Austin FC 1-0](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/austin-fc_seattle-sounders-fc/index/spielbericht/3544589) – earning [high praise](https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/top-young-player-performances-for-mls-weeks-14-and-15) for a ‘striking’ performance which included two key passes.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing the [brightest young talent](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/transfers/verein/31) has been a prominent feature of Liverpool’s recent transfer business.

Recent additions [such as Kaide Gordon](https://www.goal.com/en/news/liverpool-sign-teenage-star-gordon-from-derby-county/67o5zrimi4mo12b0hf78brd40), Bobby Clark and Marcelo Pitaluga would suggest that the club are keen to prepare for the next generation of Anfield stars.

Given the [American ownership](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/corporate/directors), it seemed only a matter of time before the stateside market was tapped by the Reds and Baker-Whiting could be the first.

Although no deal would be possible for the next two years, Liverpool should continue to monitor the [£90,000 valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/reed-baker-whiting/marktwertverlauf/spieler/793957) teen already making waves in senior football.

Hopefully, there will be no Freddy Ady 2.0 about this American prodigy.
