# Virals: Liverpool reportedly ‘very interested’ in Antonio Rudiger

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/09/virals-lille-star-jonathan-david-courted-by-liverpool/) are reportedly ‘very interested’ in Chelsea central defender Antonio Rudiger.

The Reds have been [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-antonio-rudiger-chelsea-21980190) to the 28-year-old in recent weeks but a move is complicated due to the rivalry between the clubs at the top of the Premier League.

Rudiger has transformed into a top-level performer under Thomas Tuchel and the German international played an [integral part](https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/clubs/players/250028211/statistics/?iv=true&ivReturnUrl=%2Fuefachampionsleague%2Fperformancezone%2F) in the London club becoming European champions last season.

According to a report from Spanish publication [El Nacional](https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/rebutja-l-oferta-de-klopp-perque-li-ha-donat-la-seva-paraula-a-florenti-perez-de-fitxar-pel-real_679544_102.html), as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter, Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing his compatriot to Anfield.

The report claims that Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also keen whilst Klopp wants to make the [49-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-rudiger/nationalmannschaft/spieler/86202/verein_id/3262) ace the ‘indisputable’ parter to Virgil van Dijk.

So far this season Rudiger – described as [‘outstanding’](https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/EPL/Outstanding-from-day-one-Thomas-Tuchel-heaps-praise-on-Antonio-Rudiger-after-dominating-Leicester/2717316) by Tuchel –  has earned an impressive [7.12 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/antonio-rudiger/142622) across 14 league outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing a player of Rudiger’s quality from a [direct rival](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) is certainly an intriguing proposition.

However, with Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Nat Phillips and [summer signing Ibrahima Konate](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) already in situ alongside Van Dijk, any further defensive incomings may have to be supplemented by at least one departure.

Valued at £31.5million and out of contract at the end of the season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-rudiger/marktwertverlauf/spieler/86202)), should the possibility of a free transfer arise, Liverpool may not be able to turn down the opportunity.
