# Virals: Liverpool retain interest in £35million rated Sander Berge

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/22/virals-premier-league-duo-leading-chase-for-nat-phillips/) have once again been named as a suitor for Sheffield United midfielder [Sander Berge](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/12/virals-liverpool-target-sander-berge-reportedly-has-major-price-cut/) this summer.

Previously [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/trio-forced-out-liverpool-sander-berge-transfer-plan) earlier in the year, the Reds are believed to be among the suitors still keen on the Norwegian enforcer.

This time there is [interest](https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/truth-sander-berges-sheffield-united-20865220) from Aston Villa, Arsenal and Napoli to add to the bargain, however, all share a similar concern.

According to a report from [Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/sources-liverpool-arsenal-aston-villa-eyeing-medical-assurances-before-potential-35m-efl-swoop/), as cited by [The Bladesmen](https://twitter.com/The_Bladesman/status/1407381612489318400) on Twitter, the 23-year-old’s injury record is a major worry for interested parties.

The report claims the [recently relegated Yorkshire club](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/apr/17/sheffield-united-relegated-by-wolves-premier-league-match-report) will demand £35million for their asset – a fee that has raised eyebrows following major surgery to a hamstring tendon last season.

Liverpool are said to want ‘medical assurances’ before advancing any pursuit for the [24-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sander-berge/nationalmannschaft/spieler/333014/verein_id/3440) man.

Berge missed [21 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sander-berge/verletzungen/spieler/333014) during the 2020/21 campaign, featuring in the first [13 Premier League outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sander-berge/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/333014/saison/2020/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/350) prior to the setback.

Signing a relegated star, perhaps even to replace Gini Wijnaldum who was also [signed](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36846756) following the drop, would be nothing new to the Reds.

Whilst the central midfielder’s [qualities](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/321020/Show/Sander-Berge) are there for all to see, shelling out £35million for a player with a troublesome injury record would be a major risk.

Having [suffered so badly with absentees](https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/liverpool-injury-news-latest-list-alisson-thiago-alexander-arnold-robertson-henderson-780156) last term, Klopp would surely be reticent to sign anyone that could take up another regular spot on the treatment table.

Valued at £16.2million and under contract at Bramall Lane until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sander-berge/marktwertverlauf/spieler/333014)), Liverpool will have to drive a hard bargain in order to make the deal a feasible one.
