# Virals: Liverpool scouts ‘blown away’ by Leeds United star Ilan Meslier

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/13/virals-liverpool-best-placed-to-sign-rennes-winger-jeremy-doku/) scouts have reportedly been ‘blown away’ by the ability of Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Reds are believed to have been taking a closer look at the 21-year-old Frenchman whilst ‘keeping tabs’ on Kalvin Phillips and [Raphinha](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/09/liverpool-leading-race-raphinha/).

That’s according to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-set-sights-on-signing-three-leeds-united-players/), as cited by [The Anfield Buzz](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldBuzz/status/1448261968255766530) on Twitter, claiming that the Anfield club have been impressed with the stopper’s attributes.

The Frenchman’s proficiency was also further highlighted today (October 13) by [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2881807/2021/10/12/an-experts-opinion-on-the-strengths-and-weaknesses-of-illan-meslier/?source=twitteruk).

The report claims that Liverpool have been ‘hugely impressed’ by the [four-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/illan-meslier/nationalmannschaft/spieler/542586/verein_id/9323) France Under 21 international.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Perceived interest in [newly-capped Brazil star Raphinha](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/nationalmannschaft/spieler/411295/verein_id/3439)is nothing new, as the skilful winger was [heavily linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-raphinha-transfer-hint-leeds-20991017) with a move to Anfield during the summer.

However, taking notice of Meslier is an interesting side proposition, especially after Alisson Becker [signed a new deal until 2027](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12358248/alisson-liverpool-goalkeeper-signs-contract-extension-until-june-2027#:~:text=summer%20of%202027-,Alisson%20has%20signed%20a%20new%20long%2Dterm%20contract%20which%20will,part%20of%20Jurgen%20Klopp's%20side.) over the summer.

Despite boasting an outstanding [7.13 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/illan-meslier/906076) this season, Meslier is unlikely to command the number one shirt on Merseyside and with the impressive Caoimhin Kelleher waiting in the wings, any move for a young ‘keeper would be an odd one.

Perhaps moves for Phillips and Raphinha would [make more sense](https://twitter.com/essinem7/status/1447509938339778560) at this juncture.
