# Virals: Liverpool ‘set their sights’ on AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/08/otd-goalkeeper-jerzy-dudek-made-a-liverpool-debut/) are believed to have ‘set their sights’ on AC Milan central midfielder [Franck Kessie](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/05/virals-liverpool-in-three-way-fight-for-ac-milan-star-franck-kessie/).

The Reds have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old previously but any hopes of a deal [seemed to be off](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-franck-kessie-milan-21142873) when the Ivorian opened contract negotiations at the San Siro.

However, as those [talks stall](https://football-italia.net/report-growing-distance-between-kessie-and-milan/) over wage demands, Liverpool, along with Premier League rivals Tottenham, could look to swoop.

That’s according to a report from [Il Milanista](https://www.ilmilanista.it/calciomercato/proposta-folle-scambio-liverpool/2/), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1435533914785845252) on Twitter, claiming the Anfield club have Kessie on their radar.

The report claims that Milan are open to receiving offers from big clubs as the [44 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/nationalmannschaft/spieler/294808/verein_id/3591) ace sets a high salary request.

Somewhat bizarrely, the report adds that officials in Italy would consider a ‘crazy proposal’ involving [Reds’ midfielder Thiago](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) heading in the opposite direction in January.

Kessie is yet to feature this season due to a [muscle problem](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/verletzungen/spieler/294808) but was a leading star last term, scoring [13 goals and adding six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/294808) in 37 Serie A outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at a staggering £49.5million and in the final 12 months of a deal at the San Siro ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/marktwertverlauf/spieler/294808)), Liverpool’s interest comes as little surprise as the club sniffs out a bargain.

Predominantly a [box to box midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/franck-kessie/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/294808), Kessie would in many ways be the ideal candidate to replace Gini Wijnaldum at Anfield.

Whilst Thiago’s arrival from Bayern Munich [hasn’t yet](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12219427/thiago-alcantara-struggling-to-impress-at-liverpool-serial-fouling-hints-at-jurgen-klopps-stretched-midfield) been an unbridled success, the suggestion of allowing the Spaniard to leave seems highly fanciful.

Kopites may have the opportunity to get a closer look at the Ivorian when AC head to Merseyside next week, albeit more likely the [second clash](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/441710-liverpool-s-champions-league-fixture-dates-confirmed) will see two meet.
