# Virals: Liverpool set to ‘take advantage’ of Ousmane Dembele contract halt

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/04/virals-liverpool-looking-to-trigger-release-clause-for-gavi/) are reportedly set to ‘take advantage’ of the contract situation surrounding Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The 24-year-old is yet to sign a new deal with the Catalan giants despite being [out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/profil/spieler/288230) at the end of the season.

Previously it had been [expected](https://www.marca.com/en/football/barcelona/2022/01/01/61d090ca268e3e4a3d8b45a8.html) that the Frenchman would extend a five-year spell at the Camp Nou but it would appear an agreement is some way off.

That’s according to a report from Spanish outlet [El Nacional](https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/klopp-l-hi-treu-a-xavi-hernandez-accepta-negociar-amb-el-liverpool-i-arracona-totalment-el-barca_689759_102.html), as cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC) on Twitter.

The report claims that the [27-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/nationalmannschaft/spieler/288230/verein_id/3377) World Cup winner has ‘no intention’ of renegotiating and ‘staunch admirer’ Jurgen Klopp could be attentive to the possibility of making a move this month.

So far this season Dembele – once described as [‘excellent’](https://www.marca.com/en/football/barcelona/2021/01/08/5ff878f7ca4741404e8b458b.html) by Ronald Koeman – has provided [two assists in eight appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/leistungsdaten/spieler/288230) during an injury-hit campaign.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £27million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/marktwertverlauf/spieler/288230)), the report suggests that Liverpool could look to land the star for a ‘small fee’ during the mid-season window.

Comfortable operating from the left-wing, the [skilful attacker](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299513/Show/Ousmane-Demb%C3%A9l%C3%A9) would provide direct competition for an out of sorts Sadio Mane.

Should assurances be made over the Frenchman’s [worrying fitness](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ousmane-dembele/verletzungen/spieler/288230), this truly is a golden opportunity for the Reds to sign a top-quality operator at a bargain rate.

Once rated highly enough to be worth a £135.5million transfer fee ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41075084)), Klopp should be excited by the prospect of bringing Dembele to Anfield.
