# Virals: Liverpool ‘set to win the race’ for Torino defender Gleison Bremer

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/11/09/virals-liverpool-ready-to-look-at-mikel-merino-as-midfield-alternative/) are reportedly set to ‘win the race’ to sign Torino centre-back [Gleison Bremer](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/10/11/virals-liverpool-billed-as-most-active-in-gleison-bremer-pursuit/).

The Reds have been [extensively linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-defensive-target-gleison-bremer-casts-doubt-transfer) with a move for the Brazilian for some time and despite signing Ibrahima Konate in the summer could still make their move.

Bremer has been on the radar of a number of clubs and the [former Atletico Mineiro ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bremer/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/516716) continues to impress in Serie A.

According to a report from [Torino Granata](https://www.torinogranata.it/esclusive/esclusiva-bremer-tra-la-kop-e-il-vesuvio-al-toro-contropartite-gradite-129236), as cited by [LFCStuff](https://twitter.com/LFCTueskEli) on Twitter, Liverpool are leading the way.

The report claims that Anfield is the ‘probable destiny’ for the 24-year-old who was signed for £5.22million in 2018 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bremer/transfers/spieler/516716)).

This season the Brazilian has earned a [7.19 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/bremer/885197) from 11 league appearances.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Holding a [£13.5million market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bremer/marktwertverlauf/spieler/516716) and under contract in Italy until 2023, Bremer represents a wholly viable option on a budget.

Albeit Jurgen Klopp is relatively blessed in the [defensive department](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) at present, there remains doubt over the future of Nat Phillips in particular.

Capable of [operating at right-back](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/339875/Show/Bremer) and strong aerially, Bremer would bolster the squad options on Merseyside but could also pave the way for a high profile departure in the long term.
