# Virals: Liverpool ‘showing an interest’ in Christoph Baumgartner

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/29/virals-twitter-poll-gives-verdict-on-ideal-winger-signing-this-summer/) are believed to be showing an interest in TSG Hoffenheim midfielder [Christoph Baumgartner](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/19/virals-liverpool-considering-move-for-christoph-baumgartner/).

The Austrian has risen to prominence in the Bundesliga over the last 12 months and [continued to impress](https://www.sofascore.com/player/christoph-baumgartner/825956) during Austria’s run in Euro 2020.

Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp is widely expected to find a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum this summer after the Dutchman [left the club](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/gini-wijnaldum-liverpool-leaving-breaking-20660596) as a free agent.

According to a report from German outlet [Kicker](https://www.kicker.de/baumgartner-bleibt-wohl-in-hoffenheim-4000000039165/transfermeldung), as cited by [Anfield Watch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1409466515573837824) on Twitter, the 21-year-old could be among the contenders.

The report claims that arch-rivals Manchester United are also keen on the [13-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christoph-baumgartner/nationalmannschaft/spieler/324278/verein_id/3383) Austrian starlet – albeit only a ‘mega offer’ is likely to prompt a sale ahead of next season.

Baumgartner scored [nine times and registered seven assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christoph-baumgartner/leistungsdaten/spieler/324278) in 41 appearances in 2020/21.

[Described](https://readliverpoolfc.com/Director%20Football%20at%20Bundesliga%20side%20TSG%201899%20Hoffenheim) as an ‘extremely talented player’ by Director Football at Hoffenheim Alexander Rosen, the youngster looks set to become a star on the big stage very soon.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £19.8million and under contract until 2025 in Germany ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christoph-baumgartner/marktwertverlauf/spieler/324278)), the Bundesliga club certainly hold all the power over any potential move.

Noted for being a [more attack-minded](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christoph-baumgartner/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/324278) midfielder, Baumgartner wouldn’t;t be a like for like replacement for Wijnaldum, instead a nod towards the use of a number 10 – a role unfilled since Philippe Coutinho left Merseyside.

[Compared](https://www.90min.com/posts/90min-s-our-21-hoffenheim-and-austria-christoph-baumgartner) to Mezut Ozil and Thomas Muller, the sky certainly seems to be the limit for the young Austrian.
