# Virals: Liverpool showing ‘great interest’ in Allan Saint-Maximin

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/09/30/virals-liverpool-interested-in-bayer-leverkusen-starlet-florian-wirtz/) are reportedly showing ‘great interest’ in signing Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin next summer.

The Reds have been linked alongside Chelsea with a move for the Frenchman as the 24-year-old [shines](https://www.sofascore.com/player/allan-saint-maximin/347010) in the Premier League.

Often the tormentor of many defenders across the top flight, the tricky winger was once hailed as [‘breathtaking’](https://www.football365.com/news/neville-breathtaking-newcastle-saint-maximin-bruce-hat-tip) by Gary Neville.

According to a report from Italian outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/fwd/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY2FsY2lvbWVyY2F0by5jb20vbmV3cy9uZXdjYXN0bGUtdW4tZXgtb2JpZXR0aXZvLWRlbC1taWxhbi1uZWwtbWlyaW5vLWRlbGxlLWJpZy1kaS1wcmVtLTk0MjUy/?fwd=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.calciomercato.com%2Fnews%2Fnewcastle-un-ex-obiettivo-del-milan-nel-mirino-delle-big-di-prem-94252&sport=1&spName=Football&spArticle=x_Chelsea%2C_Liverpool_%27intere), as cited by [Sky Sports Premier League](https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1443123631295508481) on Twitter, Liverpool are keen on the Toon star.

The report claims that Newcastle would be unwilling to discuss a January departure for the [seven-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan-saint-maximin/nationalmannschaft/spieler/272642/verein_id/9323) France Under 21 international.

Since arriving in England in a £16.5million deal from Ligue 1 club Nice ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/11776014/newcastle-sign-allan-saint-maximin-from-nice-and-jetro-willems-on-loan-from-frankfurt)), Saint-Maximin has [scored nine and provided 14 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan-saint-maximin/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/272642) in 63 appearances.

This season the flamboyant ace has [netted twice and added three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan-saint-maximin/leistungsdaten/spieler/272642) in three league outings – earning an eye-catching [7.48 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/allan-saint-maximin/347010) in the process.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing a left-winger would certainly appear to be a [growing priority](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) at Anfield, as links to Saint-Maximin and Arnaut Danjuma circulate.

Albeit the current occupant of the role, Sadio Mane, continues to [provide goals](https://www.premierleague.com/players/6519/Sadio-Man%C3%A9/overview), the successor to the throne could be the next major attacking signing through the door.

With the right-wing in strong stead under Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott and [Kaide Gordon](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/academy/player/kaide-gordon), the left-hand side is in need of additional options.

Valued at £27million and under contract at St James’ Park until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/allan-saint-maximin/marktwertverlauf/spieler/272642)), landing the showboating Frenchman would come into the realms of affordability for the Reds.
