# Virals: Liverpool ‘stepping up’ chase for Borussia Monchengladbach ace Denis Zakaria

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/12/virals-liverpool-studying-palmeiras-wonderkid-endrick/) are reportedly ‘stepping up their chase’ of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder [Denis Zakaria](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/03/journalist-claims-liverpool-have-enquired-over-denis-zakaria-move/).

The Reds have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old in recent months but would appear to face [fierce competition](https://talksport.com/football/1019224/man-utd-denis-zakaria-liverpool-juventus-borussia-monchengladbach/) from Manchester United and Juventus in particular.

[Out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/profil/spieler/334526) in the summer, Zakaria could be available for a bargain fee during the January transfer window.

According to Danish journalist [Daníel Nielson](https://twitter.com/fjonberg) on Twitter, the Anfield club are moving forwards with their pursuit.

The mooted £7million fee falls in line with fellow journalist [Patrick Berger](https://twitter.com/berger_pj/status/1481250959137415171)‘s recent claims.

This season the [40-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/nationalmannschaft/spieler/334526/verein_id/3384) Switzerland international has [scored twice and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/leistungsdaten/spieler/334526) in 15 Bundesliga appearances.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £24.3million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/marktwertverlauf/spieler/334526)), signing Zakaria for the suggested asking price would be an outstanding piece of business.

Predominantly a [defensive-minded midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/334526), the Swiss star would provide much-needed cover for Fabinho as well as being able to slot into a box to box role.

Boasting impressive dribbling, tackling and passing ability ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/252419/Show/Denis-Zakaria)), landing the former Servette youngster would act as a huge boost to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Furthermore, with Naby Keita at AFCON and [Thiago sidelined](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/thiago-alcantara-injury-latest) yet again through injury, the Reds are in need of a timely midfield arrival.
