# Virals: Liverpool ‘still interested’ in Lille midfielder Renato Sanches

Albeit little in the way of actual transfer activity at [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/03/virals-liverpool-enquire-over-sampdoria-star-mikkel-damsgaard/), there is certainly no shortage of speculation linking players with a move to Anfield.

One name perennially touted with a switch to the Reds is Lille midfielder [Renato Sanches](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/08/02/virals-liverpool-named-amongst-quartet-keen-on-30m-renato-sanches-deal/) following an impressive European Championship campaign with Portugal.

The 23-year-old earned an average [Sofascore rating of 7.00](https://www.sofascore.com/player/renato-sanches/318967) in four outings at Euro 2020 and has since been linked with the task of replacing Gini Wijnaldum in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

According to journalist Nicolo Schira on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1422321062558244873), the interest hasn’t gone away just yet.

Capped on [30 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/nationalmannschaft/spieler/258027/verein_id/3300) by Portugal, the combative midfielder has reinvented a career on the wane after a [less than successful](https://www.sofascore.com/player/renato-sanches/318967) loan stint at Swansea City.

Last season the ace once [compared](https://www.archysport.com/2021/05/france-football-praises-renato-sanches-with-great-praise-and-compares-it-to-seedorf-almost-perfect-copy-lille/) with Clarence Seedorf [scored once and added three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/258027) in 23 Ligue 1 outings.

Valued at £27million and under contract until 2023 in France ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/marktwertverlauf/spieler/258027)), Lille have [reportedly](https://www.football-espana.net/2021/08/01/lille-set-asking-price-for-barcelona-target-renato-sanches) set an asking price of £29.8million for the Portuguese star.

A player [built in a similar mould](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299450/Show/Renato-Sanches) to Wijnaldum, in terms of like for like replacement few of those reported targets fit the bill more impressively.

Perhaps the most troubling factor aside from previous struggles in England is a worrying injury record – missing [14 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/verletzungen/spieler/258027) last term alone whilst Wijnaldum was [available throughout](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/georginio-wijnaldum/verletzungen/spieler/49499) the 2020/21 campaign.
