# Virals: Liverpool striker Divock Origi wanted by EPL rivals

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/06/virals-barcelona-would-seriously-consider-offers-for-liverpool-target/) striker [Divock Origi](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/05/virals-lazio-reportedly-in-talks-to-sign-liverpool-ace-divock-origi/) is reportedly a top target for mega-rich Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old has long since been [tipped to make an exit](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/liverpool-transfer-news-seven-exits-suggested-origi-shaqiri-karius) from Anfield but has remained a Red throughout growing speculation.

Now it would appear that a Premier League rival could be shaping up to make the move Jurgen Klopp was [surprised](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-divock-origi-transfer-22367166) hadn’t come during the summer.

According to a report from  [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/01/06/newcastle-transfer-news-four-attacking-players-consideration/), as cited by [Telegraph Football](https://twitter.com/TeleFootball) on Twitter, the Belgian is on the radar in the North East.

The report claims that that the Toon have ‘stepped up’ their pursuit of the [31-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/nationalmannschaft/spieler/148368/verein_id/3382) ace who ‘wants to move on’ from Anfield.

This season Origi – often the [saviour](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7005859/Divock-Origi-scored-Liverpools-biggest-goals-Jurgen-Klopp.html) for the Reds – has [scored five times and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/leistungsdaten/spieler/148368) in 10 appearances across all competitions.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £10.8million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/divock-origi/marktwertverlauf/spieler/148368)) and facing an uncertain long-term future on Merseyside, cashing in on the frontman, even for the mooted £7million, would make plenty of sense from a financial perspective.

With the newly-rich Newcastle embroiled in a [relegation dogfight](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and with cash waiting, Liverpool would surely be confient of receiving a healthy fee regardless of contractual stiaiton.

However, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah [both away on international duty](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1544693/Liverpool-comment-Mohamed-Salah-Sadio-Mane-Naby-Keita-AFCON-Premier-League) until February, Origi will suddenly become a key member of Klopp’s attacking ranks and therefore cannot be sold without a suitable replacement.

Whilst most would agree an [amicable departure](https://talksport.com/football/944666/jurgen-klopp-divock-origi-liverpool-transfer-window-champions-league/) is the logical next step, it simply cannot happen at this juncture.
