# Virals: Liverpool target Houssem Aouar available for between £22-25m

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/26/virals-liverpool-willing-to-accept-offers-for-taiwo-awoniyi/) manager Jurgen Klopp looks to have a busy summer on his hands as the German looks to create a squad capable of challenging for major honours once again.

Despite a strong end to the season which saw the Reds go [unbeaten in 10 matches](https://www.skysports.com/liverpool-results) to finish third, there is a need for repair to the ranks after Gini Wijnaldum [confirmed](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/435257-gini-wijnaldum-i-ll-be-a-liverpool-supporter-for-life) he will be leaving Anfield this summer.

With the central defensive reinforcements seemingly on the way in the shape of [Ibrahima Konate](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/may/25/liverpool-set-to-sign-ibrahima-konate-ozan-kabak-deal), Klopp can now turn attention to the midfield and attacking departments.

One name [perenially linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/houssem-aouar-liverpool-transfer-rumours-20651480) with a switch to Anfield in recent months is that of Lyon captain [Houssem Aouar](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/11/virals-liverpool-target-houssem-aouar-reportedly-available-for-26m/).

According to French outlet [L’equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/), as cited by [Watch LFC](https://twitter.com/Watch_LFC/status/1397288961710690305) on Twitter, the 22-year-old cultured midfielder could be available at a cut-price fee this summer.

This season Aouar has scored [eight times and registered four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/leistungsdaten/spieler/395693) in 33 appearances across all competitions – earning an [average Sofascore rating of 6.88](https://www.sofascore.com/player/houssem-aouar/846081) in 30 Ligue 1 outings.

Despite the form of their talismanic captain and [14-cap France Under 21](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/nationalmannschaft/spieler/395693/verein_id/9323) starlet – Lyon contrived to [finish fourth](https://www.skysports.com/ligue-1-table) in the French top-flight – outside of the UEFA Champions League places, a factor that could further lead to a parting of ways.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Those mooted figures for a player of Aouar’s ability and [£45million market value](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/marktwertverlauf/spieler/395693) would be an incredible bargain.

Hailed for his [creative assets](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322096/Show/Houssem-Aouar), the Frenchman was [described](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/11566594/pep-guardiola-heaps-praise-on-incredible-houssem-aouar) as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola after a Champions League clash in 2018.

Liverpool’s current crop of midfielders lacks goals and assist at times, something the signing of Aouar could solve almost single-handedly based on [career statistics](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/395693).
