# Virals: Liverpool target Houssem Aouar hoping to ‘achieve’ summer move

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/05/virals-chairman-optimistic-liverpool-target-kingsley-coman-will-stay/) have previously been heavily [linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/houssem-aouar-liverpool-transfer-rumours-20651480) with a move for Olympique Lyon midfielder [Houssem Aouar](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/26/virals-liverpool-target-houssem-aouar-available-for-between-22-25m/).

Whilst no further links have been forthcoming since the opening of the transfer window, the Reds instead have been [credited with an interest in a host](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/5-midfielders-liverpool-could-sign-to-replace-gini-wijnaldum) of other midfield options.

That stance could change, however, as the Frenchman seemingly looks to [force a move away](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/houssem-aouar-wants-to-leave-lyon-lequipe/) from the Ligue 1 club.

According to a report from [Get Football News France](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2021/exclusive-houssem-aouar-is-absent-from-lyon-training-attempting-to-achieve-a-move/), as cited by the [outlets’ Twitter](https://twitter.com/GFFN/status/1412151420460191754) account, Aouar has been absent from pre-season training in order to seek a move.

The report cites a claim from the club suggesting the 23-year-old [French youth international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/nationalmannschaft/spieler/395693/verein_id/9323) had been absent with sickness, something that has now been thrown into doubt.

During 2020/21, Aouar [scored eight and registered another four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/395693) in 33 appearances across all competitions as Lyon [missed out](https://www.skysports.com/ligue-1-table/2020) on UEFA Champions League qualification.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Should Liverpool rejoin the race for the ace [hailed](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11679/11566594/pep-guardiola-heaps-praise-on-incredible-houssem-aouar) as ‘incredible’ by Pep Guardiola, they will face [tough competition](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1451646/Arsenal-transfer-news-Houssem-Aouar-bid-Lyon-contract) from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Valued at £37.8million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/houssem-aouar/marktwertverlauf/spieler/395693)), the previously [mooted £36million asking price](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Transferts-le-plan-de-nasser-al-khelaifi-pour-attirer-houssem-aouar-ol-au-psg/1178469) would represent an excellent piece of business.

Albeit a predominantly [progressive](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322096/Show/Houssem-Aouar) midfield option, the Frenchman would represent a high-quality Gini Wijnaldum replacement this summer.

At the suggested valuations this deal would be a [no-brainer](https://footballbh.net/2019/02/09/houssem-aouar-lyon-tactical-analysis-statistics/) for most clubs, including the Reds.
