# Virals: Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe ‘will not extend’ PSG deal

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/30/virals-christian-falk-confirms-minimum-e90million-kingsley-coman-fee/) have often been linked with a somewhat fanciful move for Paris Saint-Germain and France superstar [Kylian Mbappe](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/23/virals-liverpool-target-kylian-mbappe-asks-to-leave-psg/).

Albeit potentially little more than a [dream scenario](https://talksport.com/football/903175/liverpool-transfer-jurgen-klopp-kylian-mbappe-paris-saint-germain-kingsley-coman/) for many, most realistic Kopites have often brushed off the move as unlikely at best.

Well, those hopes may have been handed a boost as the 22-year-old [reportedly](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2021/kylian-mbappe-will-not-extend-with-psg-if-conditions-dont-change/) turns down the chance to extend a stay in the French capital.

According to a report from the reputable [L’Équipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/), as cited by [Get French Football News](https://twitter.com/GFFN/status/1410365626061840393) on Twitter, the World Cup winner could become a free agent net summer.

Mbappe has now entered the [final 12 months of a contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/profil/spieler/342229) with the Ligue 1 club and could potentially talk to other clubs as soon as January 2022.

The report claims despite the risk of losing the [48-cap ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/leistungsdaten/spieler/342229) for nothing next year, PSG remain unwilling to sell this summer.

Previously [hailed](https://talksport.com/football/748912/mbappe-psg-fabregas-ferdinand-ibrahimovic-quotes-champions-league-man-united/) as a ‘phenomenon’ by Cesc Fabregas, the speedster emerged as the villain after missing the penalty that sent France [crashing out of Euro 2020](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51198549) against Switzerland.

Despite enduring a disappointing campaign last season for club and country, Mbappe remains the [hottest property](https://www.transfermarkt.com/marktwertetop/wertvollstespieler) in world football and finished with [42 goals and 11 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/342229) in just 46 outings.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at an eye-watering £144million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/marktwertverlauf/spieler/342229)), the possibility of signing the Frenchman for free is a tantalising prospect.

Albeit there’s likely to be [fierce competition from Real Madrid](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1456604/Real-Madrid-transfer-news-Kylian-Mbappe-PSG) and the rest of the European elite, Liverpool will surely be in the conversation at least.

Whilst the wages will be astronomical, the opportunity to sign a [world star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kylian-mbappe/erfolge/spieler/342229) doesn’t come around often – if ever.

Still just 22, the Frenchman has [already achieved so much](https://www.fifa.com/tournaments/mens/worldcup/2018russia/news/the-meteoric-rise-of-kylian-mbappe#:~:text=Kylian%20Mbappe%20illuminated%20the%202018,the%20FIFA%20Young%20Player%20award.) in the game and has at least another decade at the elite level, injury permitting.

Given the [crazy finances](https://wageindicator.co.uk/pay/vip-celebrity-salary/kylian-mbappe) and the frankly absurd prospect of allowing Mbappe to leave for free, the Reds should be testing the resolve in this transfer window.
