# Virals: Liverpool target Marco Asensio handed contract ‘ultimatum’

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/03/28/virals-liverpool-keeping-a-close-eye-on-fc-porto-ace-vitinha/) target [Marcos Asensio](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/11/18/real-madrid-to-offer-one-of-four-players-to-liverpool-in-exchange-for-van-dijk/) has reportedly been given a contract ‘ultimatum’ at Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old forward has been [linked](https://twitter.com/MadridXtra/status/1445734771154321408) with a move to the Reds previously and a summer departure could now be on the cards.

According to a report from Spanish newspaper [Sport](https://www.sport.es/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/taking-account-liverpools-signing-interest-club-ready-make-cash-players-summer-sale/)), Asensio has until June 30th to agree to new terms at the Bernabau.

The report claims that Los Blancos would have ‘no problem’ selling the [26-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/nationalmannschaft/spieler/296622/verein_id/35742) Spain ace at the end of the season.

Liverpool have previously been [billed](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-main-bidder-sign-player-sale-club-will-study-offers-e50-60m-summer/) as the ‘main bidder’ for Asensio and this latest report suggests that the Anfield club would make a move.

So far this season the man once [described](https://dailycannon.com/2017/08/marco-asensio-praised-by-real-madrid-legends/) as boasting an ‘unlimited ceiling’ by Guti has [scored 10 times and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/leistungsdaten/spieler/296622) in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £36million and under contract in Spain until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/marktwertverlauf/spieler/296622)), Real Madrid are right to potentially cash in on the versatile star.

For Liverpool, adding Asensio to the [attacking ranks](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/team/first-team) in the summer would be a smart move for the right fee.

Capable of playing in a [plethora of positions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-asensio/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/296622) across the frontline, the former Mallorca youngster would be a welcome addition to Jurgen Klopp’s options.
