# Virals: Liverpool target Yves Bissouma misses opening training session

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/13/fabrizio-romano-claims-forwards-are-the-priority-at-liverpool-this-summer/) may have been handed a potential boost in any pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder [Yves Bissouma](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/07/01/virals-liverpool-keeping-tabs-on-brighton-midfielder-yves-bissouma/).

The Reds were [heavily linked](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-36m-transfer-objective-bissouma-20934490) with the 24 year old earlier in the summer with [competition](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/yves-bissouma-requests-brighton-amp-hove-albion-exit-cs2572hwl) now coming from Premier League rivals Arsenal and more recently Manchester City.

As clubs up and down the country [return to pre-season](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/four-things-spotted-liverpool-pre-21033344) training, potential suitors for the Mali man may have been handed an insight into the likelihood of a deal.

According to Brighton and Hove Albion Correspondent, [Aden-Jay Wood](https://twitter.com/AJWood16), as cited by [Football Transfers](https://twitter.com/Transferzone00/status/1414672642188070919) on Twitter, Bissouma was inexplicable missing from the opening day of preparations.

During 2020/21, the [18 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yves-bissouma/nationalmannschaft/spieler/410425/verein_id/3674) international ace earned an impressive average of [Sofascore rating of 7.07](https://www.sofascore.com/player/yves-bissouma/844842) in 36 Premier League outings.

[Described](https://www.brightonandhoveindependent.co.uk/sport/football/brighton-and-hove-albion/gary-linekers-exceptional-yves-bissouma-tweet-has-liverpool-arsenal-and-brighton-fans-buzzing-3198219) as an ‘exceptional footballer’ by Gary Linekar, the defensive midfielder has been a revelation on the south coast for Brighton since arriving from Lille for £15million ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11741/11439777/yves-bissouma-signs-for-brighton-from-lille)).

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Signing a central midfielder to [replace Gini Wijnaldum](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11820/12189637/georginio-wijnaldum-paris-saint-germain-sign-midfielder-on-free-transfer-from-liverpool) certainly seems to be high on the list of priorities at Anfield this summer.

However, in more recent weeks it seems as though Bissouma has fallen down [that particular pecking order](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfers-saul-niguez-davies-21022813) with the likes of Renato Sanches and Saul Niguez taking over.

Nevertheless, should the Malian move on this summer, a club is going to land a [top quality performer](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/303096/Show/Yves-Bissouma) – potentially still the Reds.
