# Virals: Liverpool told ‘No-one Can Leave’ proposed ESL

In what was one of the murkiest weeks in the history of [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/25/virals-liverpool-join-the-race-for-real-sociedad-star-alexander-isak/) and indeed football itself, the Reds were part of a breakaway of 12 clubs looking to start a new [European Super League](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/06/21/liverpool-esl-joan-laporta/).

Billed as a rival to the UEFA Champions League – a competition the club has [won six times](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/history/honours) – fan backlash soon led to the Anfield club and others pull out one by one.

Within hours all of the English participants, including the Reds, had [backtracked on their involvement](https://www.goal.com/en/news/liverpool-leave-european-super-league/flia82sr84v1i8wh76or3gv3) and the proposal seemed dead in the water.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and in many people’s eyes one of the main protagonists behind the league has [warned Liverpool](https://www.ondacero.es/programas/transistor/florentino-perez-sergio-ramos-dijimos-que-oferta-tenia-plazo-admitio_2021062460d4f7679feaa500019f9f8b.html) that ‘no-one can leave” the project.

Perez told [El Transistor](https://www.ondacero.es/programas/transistor/florentino-perez-sergio-ramos-dijimos-que-oferta-tenia-plazo-admitio_2021062460d4f7679feaa500019f9f8b.html), as reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-european-super-league-perez-20898600) and cited by [Liverpool FC News](https://twitter.com/LivEchoLFC/status/1408417946649694211) on Twitter, that the ordeal is far from over.

The Spanish chief still maintains that the [much-maligned league](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/21/european-super-league-plan-on-the-brink-of-collapse-after-condemnation.html#:~:text=LONDON%20%E2%80%94%20Plans%20for%20a%20breakaway,even%20threats%20of%20government%20intervention.&text=Many%20saw%20it%20as%20a,league%20could%20not%20be%20relegated.) will move forwards and suggested ‘the courts in Luxembourg’ will decide what happens next.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Well, it would seem the [wholly embarrassing saga](https://metro.co.uk/2021/04/18/rio-ferdinand-slams-embarrassing-man-utd-over-european-super-league-plans-14431701/) hasn’t quite been put to bed just yet.

Despite making a fresh stance abundantly clear, Liverpool’s involvement from the start has [tainted Fenway Sports Group’s ownership](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-lose-major-sponsorship-deal-20429526) at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp’s disdain towards the idea was clear for all to see.

At a time where all involved at the club should be concentrating on transfers, regaining faith from supporters and [wrestling back a Premier League trophy](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), a case such as this getting dragged through the courts is the last thing the Reds need.
