# Virals: Liverpool willing to accept offers for Taiwo Awoniyi

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/05/25/virals-james-milner-brings-up-250-liverpool-appearances/) loanee [Taiwo Awoniyi](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/01/14/old-firm-duo-lead-transfer-race-for-taiwo-awoniyi/) has this week returned from a season-long loan spell at Union Berlin in Germany.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a mixed spell in the Bundesliga, alongside fellow Reds loan star Loris Karius, scoring [five goals and registering four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/leistungsdaten/spieler/295313) in 22 appearances.

Having struggling to obtain a work permit previously in order to feature for the Anfield club, Awoniyi is now [eligible to qualify](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/africa/57161133) and would in theory be available to play for Jurgen Klopp’s side next season.

However, according to [Neil Jones](https://twitter.com/neiljonesgoal), as cited by [Anfield Watch Academy](https://twitter.com/AcadWatch/status/1397300735143030788) on Twitter, there is growing interest in the striker from a trio of Championship clubs.

Capped [seven times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/nationalmannschaft/spieler/295313/verein_id/31096) by Nigeria at senior level, Liverpool signed Awoniyi back in 2015 from Imperial Academy for a fee just shy of £1million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/transfers/spieler/295313)).

Some six loan spells later due to age and eligibility issues, the Under 17 World Cup [winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/erfolge/spieler/295313) has netted [34 goals in 139 first-team outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/295313) across Europe.

### READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Liverpool are certainly on the lookout for [additional striking options](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-transfer-news-free-agents-20316277) this summer – but it’s unlikely Awoniyi will make the grade at this juncture.

Operating almost [solely as a focal point](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/295313) in attack, the Nigerian doesn’t have the versatility or attributes Klopp likes in a forward.

Valued at [£4.05million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/taiwo-awoniyi/marktwertverlauf/spieler/295313), the Reds would welcome the mooted £8-10million cash influx towards their own transfer activity this summer.
