# Virals: Liverpool ‘willing to pay’ for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong

[Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/02/11/pundit-praises-great-interaction-between-liverpool-duo/) are reportedly ‘willing to pay’ for Barcelona midfielder [Frenkie de Jong](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2022/01/06/virals-barcelona-would-seriously-consider-offers-for-liverpool-target/) at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old was believed to be disillusioned at the Camp Nou earlier this term following the [departure of Ronald Koeman](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11833/12413637/ronald-koeman-sacked-by-barcelona) and a subsequent lack of regular game time under Xavi.

At that point the Reds were [seemingly in the mix](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1469268166756941829) to land De Jong in the summer with Jurgen Klopp ‘crazy’ about the possibility.

However, that situation would appear to have resolved itself and the Dutchman is now [content with life](https://www.sofascore.com/player/frenkie-de-jong/795222) at the Catalan giants.

That’s according to a report from [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/jong-decidido-quedarse-barca-13222998) claiming that the former Ajax starlet will stay in Spain for the time being despite having ‘important offers on the table’ to move

The report states that both Liverpool and Bayern Munich would be ‘willing’ to spend big on the [31-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frenkie-de-jong/nationalmannschaft/spieler/326330/verein_id/3379) Holland ace.

This season De Jong – once described as [‘extraordinary’](https://www.sport.es/en/news/barca/this-is-what-xavi-thinks-of-frenkie-de-jong-8212045) by Xavi – has [scored twice and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frenkie-de-jong/leistungsdaten/spieler/326330) in 27 appearances across all competitions.

Holding a market value of £63million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frenkie-de-jong/marktwertverlauf/spieler/326330)), meeting the previously mooted [£75million asking price](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-learn-frenkie-de-13619521) would be regarded as good business by the Reds.

Supremely [versatile](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/frenkie-de-jong/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/326330) and capable of operating as a defensive midfielder, De Jong would be a superb addition to Klopp’s squad – particularly as James Milner edges towards a likely departure.

Despite enjoying newfound happiness at present, situations can change quickly in football and Liverpool will no doubt be keeping a keen eye on the [talented](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/279423/Show/Frenkie-de-Jong) Dutchman between now and the end of the season.
